Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai, the person who is causing a stir in public opinion because he used a fake doctorate degree to teach everywhere, taught at his school for 6 years (from 2016 to 2022).

"In 2016, Mr. Hai applied to the school. Seeing that Mr. Hai had previously worked at a business in specialized positions that met the school's requirements, had practical experience and had taught in a number of places, we accepted Mr. Hai as a guest lecturer. By 2018, Mr. Hai became a full-time lecturer because he met the professional requirements," Dr. Quoc Anh informed.

At that time, Mr. Hai taught subjects including software development tools and environments, information technology project management, and software management.

According to Mr. Quoc Anh, after teaching for 4 years, Mr. Hai submitted his resignation in 2022. "Recently, when there was information that Mr. Hai used a fake doctorate, the school conducted a review of the school's teaching staff, and found out that this fake doctorate was a visiting lecturer and a permanent member of the school," said Dr. Quoc Anh.

Explaining the recruitment without verifying the qualifications of the candidates, Mr. Quoc Anh said that all the documents in the file had been notarized. Furthermore, the school only verifies the qualifications when there are signs of irregularities or when there is a complaint.

"However, the school will learn from this experience in the future process of recruiting lecturers. Currently, looking up degrees is simpler, just go to the website of the degree-granting units to verify, so the school will verify when recruiting," Mr. Quoc Anh shared.

Regarding the issue of whether a lecturer using a fake doctorate to teach for 6 years will affect the quality of students in that subject, Dr. Quoc Anh said: "All subjects are taught according to standardized curriculum and documents. For exams, the school also has a question bank, not the lecturers themselves. The implementation of the subject project also has an evaluation board consisting of 2 to 3 members both inside and outside the school. Therefore, we believe that the quality of students is still not affected."

Recently, Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai was discovered by the Vietnam College of Industry and Trade to have used a fake doctorate in computer science, with the name of the granting institution being the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University. However, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences confirmed that Mr. Hai's name and degree number were not in the school's data.

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Pham Duc Trong, Head of Communications Department of Vietnam College of Industry and Trade, said that Mr. Hai was only on probation for the position of Head of Information Technology Department. However, in fact, according to our research, the school has officially appointed Mr. Hai to this position.

Recently, not only Vietnam College of Industry and Trade but also a number of other universities were "tricked" by Mr. Hai into becoming a lecturer using a fake doctorate degree, but were later discovered.
