30 years traditional jam shop
These last days of the year, the jam shop Huong Xuan (42 years old) on Phan Van Han Street (Ward 17, Binh Thanh District) is starting to bustle and busy with the first Tet orders. Ms. Xuan said that her mother has been making Tet jam for over 40 years and this shop has been open for nearly 30 years, so the customers are usually "regulars".

Accordingly, the shop specializes in selling traditional Southern Tet cakes and jams, such as lotus seed jam, coconut jam, ginger jam, custard apple jam... Looking at the menu posted in front of the counter, there are about 30 different types, prices range from a few dozen to a few hundred depending on the type, mainly at 180,000 - 250,000 VND depending on the type.
“About 60-70% of the jams my family sells are made by hand and traditionally by my mother and workers. During Tet, I import some other types of jams from familiar places to serve the diverse needs of customers, mainly traditional jams from the South,” the shop representative added.
The shop mainly supplies jams wholesale to other places, however, during the Tet holiday, more customers come here to buy retail. Ms. Xuan said that the shop has started to "get into season", with customers increasing many times compared to normal days. However, this year the shop is still "nervous" because they do not know what the orders will be like in the coming days.
“During Tet, prices usually increase a little bit. Last year, it also increased by a few thousand due to the increase in raw material prices. This year, we don’t know yet. We will have to wait a few days to see how things are,” said Ms. Xuan.

Usually during Tet season, the best-selling jams that the shop owner "reveals" are mainly traditional jams such as coconut jam and lotus jam rather than new jams on the market. What the shop owner is most proud of is that the jam is produced in a traditional, handmade way, without using chemicals or preservatives to enhance the color of the jam as well as increase the preservation time.
That is also the reason why the jams here have a shelf life ranging from only a few weeks to a few months depending on the type, and also the reason why the number of new orders increases dramatically near Tet.
“Last year, on peak days, we had to hire more workers to keep up with the demand. Hopefully this year will be the same, with good business so that Huong Xuan can be present during Tet for many families in Ho Chi Minh City. My shop is also popular with many overseas Vietnamese, some people come to buy every time they return to Vietnam, others buy for relatives and send abroad for Tet,” the shop owner proudly said.
Many creative Tet gift sets
At this time, inside a store of the Hong Lam traditional dried fruit and jam chain on Cao Thang Street (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) is also bustling with the Tet atmosphere. Shelves full of dried fruit and traditional Northern Tet jams are arranged and decorated attractively such as young coconut jam, young coconut jam, peanut jam...
Here, staff are busy wrapping gifts that have been ordered by customers, mainly dried fruits and jams. A representative of this branch said that orders for Tet are currently increasing, so staff are working continuously to meet customer demand.

“Here we not only sell jams but also have gift sets for customers to buy for relatives, friends, businesses, partners… on the occasion of Tet. The prices of jams and dried apricots range from a few tens of thousands to a few hundred thousand depending on the type, some are several million VND depending on the needs of the customer," said a store representative.
The store confirmed that the price has not changed much compared to before, is clearly listed and customers can track the price, choose suitable products and gift sets on the website, fanpage or come directly to the store for advice.
