Vietnam Airlines achieved a high on-time performance (OTP) rate of approximately 82% in 11 months of 2024. This result is significantly higher than the average of 73.7% of the entire Vietnamese aviation industry.
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the period from January to November 2024, Vietnam Airlines operated 98,985 flights, of which the number of flights taking off on time was 80,944, reaching a rate of 81.8%.
VASCO, a member airline of Vietnam Airlines, also achieved an on-time flight departure rate of 86%.
According to Vietnam Airlines, over the past 11 months, the airline has faced great pressures such as a sharp increase in the number of flights during the peak Tet and Summer 2024 seasons, unusual weather conditions, aviation infrastructure problems, and a shortage of aircraft due to global engine recalls by manufacturers...
Therefore, the high punctuality index also reflects the airline's efforts in optimizing operational processes and providing quality service to passengers.
Vietnam Airlines promotes cooperation with aircraft manufacturers, quickly receiving more Airbus A320neo and Boeing 787 aircraft to help the airline expand its fleet, increase transportation capacity and contribute significantly to maintaining a high on-time performance index.
At the same time, Vietnam Airlines has optimized aircraft maintenance by focusing on daily technical inspections and limiting aircraft stops on operating days except in mandatory cases to ensure aircraft operating time.
Following the direction of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines pays special attention to adjusting aircraft operating times, reducing turnaround times for connecting flights, optimizing aircraft operating times during the day, and increasing flights in the afternoon and evening.
In response to the impact of bad weather, the airline always has a response scenario for possible situations. Specifically, Vietnam Airlines proactively adjusts schedules at airports affected by unusual weather developments to limit waiting and diverting flights. The airline also strictly implements notification when flights change schedules via email, text messages, phone calls, website and fanpage to customers.
Vietnam Airlines has been ranked as one of the five most punctual airlines in the Asia-Pacific region by Cirium, an aviation data analytics company and strategic partner of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), along with Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Peach Aviation (all Japanese airlines) and Air Asia (Malaysia).
In 2023, Vietnam Airlines was also recognized by Cirium as one of the 10 most punctual airlines in Asia - Pacific.
