The final round of the first leg of the National Women's Football Championship - Thai Son Bac 2023 took place on December 5, with Ho Chi Minh City I extending their winning streak with a 5-0 win over Son La. The victory helped them take the top spot in the table after the first leg, an impressive achievement as Ho Chi Minh City I was the only unbeaten team since the beginning of the tournament.
In the final round of the first leg, HCMC I faced Son La. The opponent was not strong, so coach Kim Chi made many adjustments to the starting lineup by putting some players who were usually on the bench into the starting lineup. However, with more even strength, the defending champions quickly pushed up their formation to organize attacks on the opponent's field.
Meanwhile, Son La, who were considered weaker, started the game comfortably. They played quite low, organized a tight defense, and did not create much space for the HCMC players to break deep into the 16m50 box. Facing a dense defense and playing close to Son La's goal, HCMC I encountered many difficulties and had to end the first half with a draw.
Having lost a lot of energy in the first half, in the second half, when their physical strength was somewhat reduced, Son La's defense gradually revealed their mistakes. In the 51st minute, Thanh Tam was fouled in the 16m50 box and a penalty was awarded to TPHCM I. Thuy Trang easily scored the opening goal of the match from the penalty spot for TPHCM I.
Ten minutes later, Thuy Trang still scored from outside the 16m50 box, doubling the gap for HCMC I. This veteran midfielder completed her own hat-trick with a technical shot from 23 meters away in the 76th minute. In the final minutes, Cu Thi Huynh Nhu and Kim Ngan scored two more goals, helping the home team win with a final score of 5-0.
In the match taking place at the same time, Than KSVN won 2-0 against TPHCM II to end the first leg with 18 points, ranking second in the table. The match between Hanoi I and Ha Nam ended with a score of 3-0 in favor of the Hanoi girls. In the remaining match, Thai Nguyen did not encounter many difficulties to win 4-0 against Hanoi II.
At the end of the first leg, HCMC I led with 19 points. Followed by Than KSVN (18 points), Hanoi I (16 points), Ha Nam (12 points)...
