Thousands of sparrows and swallows have been taken to a non-profit center in Switzerland after soaring temperatures caused them to become dehydrated.
Accordingly, the Ornithologique de Réadaptation center on the outskirts of Geneva, Switzerland, received approximately 30 birds per day, mostly due to the heatwave when temperatures exceeded 30 ° C in July.
The center's founder, ornithologist Patrick Jacot, said the center has taken in more than 1,660 birds in the past six months. Jacot explained that the birds have a habit of nesting in open spaces, in any location from porches to mailboxes, making them particularly vulnerable. Their nesting sites are sometimes made of metal, making them susceptible to overheating.
Mr. P. Jacob added that the extremely high temperatures have also affected food sources, making foraging for food an extremely dangerous challenge for the birds.
