Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai heroically sacrificed his life while chasing a group of drug criminals.

On the night of April 17, Comrade Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee and Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, were present to direct the plan to capture the remaining fugitives, and at the same time directed the rapid implementation of policies and regimes for officers and soldiers who died and were injured while on duty.

Comrade Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security directly directed the implementation of the plan to capture the subjects.

Previously, through professional work, the Quang Ninh Provincial Police discovered a large-scale drug trafficking and transportation ring led by Nguyen Huu Dang (born in 1996, residing in Hung Thang Ward, Ha Long City); a special project was established to combat and destroy it.

At around 8:20 p.m. on April 17, 2025, the authorities determined that the opportunity to solve the case had come. In the area near Dragon Castel apartment building (Ha Long City), Nguyen Huu Dang was caught red-handed while preparing to trade 16 heroin cakes. Immediately afterwards, the reconnaissance teams continued to deploy to arrest related subjects in the ring, including a group of subjects from Phu Tho who traveled to Quang Ninh to trade drugs.

During the pursuit in the area near Dai Yen toll station, the task force discovered and arrested Ha Thuong Hai (born in 1994, residing at Thu Cuc Center 2, Tan Son, Phu Tho). However, the remaining subjects in the car fought back fiercely with AK guns to rescue their accomplices; injuring Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai (officer of the Drug Crime Investigation Department of Quang Ninh Provincial Police) and Major Vu Van Hoan.

Due to the severity of his injuries, although his teammates rushed him to Bai Chay Hospital (the nearest medical facility), Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai did not survive and heroically sacrificed himself while on duty.

Through initial investigation, Nguyen Huu Dang and Ha Thuong Hai confessed to their illegal drug trafficking. The seized items included 16 heroin bricks, 2 military guns, 1 grenade, 3 cars and many other related evidences.

Quang Ninh Provincial Police urgently arrested the remaining subjects including: Bui Dinh Khanh (born in 1994, residing in Group 6, Zone 1, Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City) and two subjects Hoang Van Dong, Ha Quang Son (born in 1994, both residing in Center 1, Thu Cuc, Tan Son, Phu Tho), and coordinated with functional units to block waterway and road traffic routes, border routes, border gates, and control vehicles entering and leaving the province.

On the night of April 17, Comrade Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, together with leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, together with leaders of the Department of Investigation Police on Drug-related Crimes, the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) urgently held a meeting with the Provincial Police Department and the Provincial Military Command to direct the plan to capture the remaining fugitives, and at the same time direct the rapid implementation of regimes and policies for officers and soldiers who died and were injured while on duty.

With the spirit of urgently capturing criminals, at 4:30 a.m. on April 18, 2025, the authorities arrested two more subjects, Ha Quang Son and Hoang Van Dong, while they were on the run.
