The lieutenant of the missile brigade - an 18-year-old boy that year, when the HD-981 drilling rig was illegally pulled into Vietnam's waters, was seething with wonder what he could do for the country? His dream of becoming a navy soldier back then has now come true.

After graduating from the Naval Academy, Nguyen Duc Vinh worked at Brigade 679 (Naval Region 1) - a coastal defense missile unit . As a typical young face of the brigade, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Vinh is currently the head of the brigade's technical station.

A creative 9X of the missile brigade

Meeting Vinh in the late summer sun, his face dripping with sweat, he was diligently working at the technical station of this missile brigade . Many officers at the station were experienced, but when mentioning Vinh, everyone admired the young lieutenant who was hard-working, diligent and enthusiastic in his work.

Vinh said that in the first days of joining the brigade, there were so many new things to learn. Along with the knowledge he already had, he chose to learn from the commander and his teammates. "Thanks to my uncles and brothers, with their knowledge and experience after many years of attachment, they shared, guided and helped me quickly grasp the assigned tasks," Vinh expressed.

But how to maximize the technical and tactical features of weapons and technical equipment in the process of mastering, exploiting and using them is always a concern for new soldiers.

In search of an answer to that question, he registered three models in three consecutive years: Simulation of the operation of the Kip vehicle during missile testing, Equipment for testing the gyro block on the P-28 missile, Simulation of the operation of the self-steering system on the P-28M missile.

In addition to his specialized knowledge, Vinh applied microcontroller and programming techniques to further research the theoretical basis of the equipment and the content to be implemented. Vinh said the most difficult thing was finding research documents. Thanks to his good command of English and Russian, Vinh dug deeper and found some related documents. After many tests and adjustments, the model has now been completed and applied in the brigade.

"As a researcher, of course I am very proud when the model is supported by my superiors, comrades, and teammates to be put into application. From this joy, I am motivated to continue to register to implement other models, seeing it as a way for me to contribute to improving the quality of training and combat readiness in the unit," Vinh said.

I always think that as the future owners of the country, the young generation needs to have enthusiasm, passion, and a desire to contribute to fully develop each person's inner strength to build the country together.

Contribute youth

The guy from Thuy Nguyen (Hai Phong) boasted that since he was a child, he was fascinated by movies about missiles, weapons, and military equipment. At the time when public opinion was boiling over the HD-981 drilling rig illegally entering Vietnam's exclusive economic zone , Vinh was a 12th grade student and asked himself what he could do to contribute to the country?

No one in his family was in the military, but his parents were very supportive of their son's desire to enroll in the Naval Academy, and were a little proud because "he knew how to think big". Vinh humorously said that perhaps his "natural science" qualities were brought out, because when he entered the academy, he was urged to learn deeply about missiles, military weapons, and technical equipment.

It was the disciplined military environment that trained this young man from Hai Phong to be resilient and independent, so that Vinh always sought to learn whenever he had the chance, accumulate soft skills, and develop his own strengths.

Assigned to work at Brigade 679, Vinh always chose to take a proactive attitude from the first day he arrived at the unit. Whenever there was a training plan, he quickly studied the curriculum, learned the documents to grasp the training content, then proactively drafted a specific, meticulous lesson plan according to the instructions of his superiors.

This helps him promptly grasp the content, organization, training methods, and practice, helping him master the lesson plan, prepare the model team, and the training ground to achieve the highest training efficiency.

It was quite surprising that Vinh had a lot of English and Russian because he had spent a lot of time improving himself. When the unit established foreign language clubs for officers and soldiers, Vinh immediately signed up to practice and improve his foreign language skills. "I consider it a duty because it not only serves my professional work, looking up in-depth research documents, but also improves my ability to communicate and integrate internationally," Vinh confided.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Vinh is also mentioned for many achievements awarded by leaders and commanders at all levels. He is a basic emulation soldier 2020 - 2022. In 2021, he was honored as one of the ten outstanding young faces of the Navy. In 2022, he received a certificate of merit from the Ministry of National Defense. In 2023, he was awarded the title of Emulation Soldier of the whole army.
