Trade and services: A driving force in economic growth

In the first quarter of 2025, the value of the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in Thai Nguyen province is estimated to increase by 4.02% over the same period last year. In particular, the trade and service sector maintained a high growth rate, continuing to affirm its role as a driving force in economic growth.

In the first quarter of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the province is estimated at VND 22,610 billion, an increase of 22.7% over the same period last year.

By economic sector, the state economic sector achieved the lowest, with over 680 billion VND, up 3.6% over the same period; the non-state economic sector is estimated at over 21,854 billion VND, up 23.4%; the foreign-invested economic sector is estimated at over 75 billion VND, up 23.7%.

By economic sector, retail sales of goods are estimated at over VND 16,254 billion, up 21.7% over the same period (accounting for 72% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue); revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, tourism and travel services is estimated at VND 3,763 billion, up 25.4%; revenue from other services is estimated at VND 2,593 billion, up 25.2%...

Vibrant trade and service activities and high growth compared to the same period last year are positive signs for increasing state budget revenue. Accordingly, the first quarter budget revenue is estimated to reach 22.4% of the 2025 estimate and increase by 25% over the same period.

The above results show the drastic direction of the Provincial People's Committee for functional departments and branches to synchronously deploy solutions to stimulate the distribution system, support enterprises, cooperatives and small traders, promote promotion and sales on e-commerce platforms; connect supply and demand of goods with provinces and cities nationwide through fairs, exhibitions and trade promotion programs.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tan, Director of Tam Che Thai Cooperative, said: Along with tea products, we also cooperate with farmers to develop the Bao Thai rice brand (Dinh Hoa) through the production of noodles and dried vermicelli. In particular, the Cooperative has produced green tea rice noodles, which is the first product in Thai Nguyen. With the support of the Department of Industry and Trade, the Cooperative has brought local specialties and strengths to a large number of consumers through display and sale booths at fairs, exhibitions and e-commerce platforms.

Meanwhile, Ms. Ngo Thi Ly, Director of GO! Thai Nguyen Supermarket, said: The Supermarket's revenue in the first quarter of 2025 reached 122 billion VND, an increase of 15.4% over the same period. This result was achieved because the company always closely followed the market, had forecasts to work with major suppliers, ensuring enough output to serve customers. During the upcoming April 30 and May 1 holidays, GO! Supermarket has many discounted products, super preferential prices to stimulate consumer demand, continue to increase total retail sales of goods, consumer revenue, etc.

Not only supporting enterprises and cooperatives to expand sales channels at fairs and exhibitions, the Department of Industry and Trade also aims to promote coordination with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize training on business skills on digital platforms, brand development, improve the quality of human resources in the field of e-commerce, build images for enterprises and cooperatives, livestream skills to promote product images...

In particular, at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, the Department of Industry and Trade actively implemented the contents of the "Trade Promotion Program, connecting the consumption of Thai Nguyen products on TikTok's e-commerce platform". To specify the cooperation contents, the Department of Industry and Trade signed a memorandum of understanding between Thai Nguyen province, TikTok Vietnam and Shopee Vietnam Company Limited.

With the support of TikTok, the promotional campaign for "Thai Nguyen - Four Great Teas" was deployed professionally and methodically; with the participation of famous individuals, KOLs, KOCs, TikTok created the video "Journey to experience the land of tea - Rich in identity" to promote, introduce, and promote the cultural beauty, people, and tea products of Thai Nguyen province widely on TikTok.

With Shopee e-commerce platform, one of the notable results is the opening event of "Thai Nguyen Product Booth". This is the right step in the process of digital transformation and international economic integration. Currently, we are continuing to support enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the province to maximize opportunities from e-commerce platforms to promote, communicate, and bring Thai Nguyen products, especially tea products, closer to domestic and international consumers.

According to the content of Plan No. 95/KH-UBND issued on April 14, 2025 by the Provincial People's Committee on the growth scenario for 2025 (adjusted in April 2025), based on the growth results of the first quarter of 2025, the Provincial People's Committee sets the goal of focusing on promoting growth in the trade and service sector, focusing on developing e-commerce and wholesale and retail.

It is expected that in the second quarter of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the province will reach VND 22,823 billion. The province sets a target that by June 30, 2025, 100% of enterprises and business households in the area with potential products will establish and effectively maintain online sales channels on e-commerce platforms...

Currently, along with promoting the introduction of specialty and typical products of the province to e-commerce platforms, the Department of Industry and Trade is focusing on implementing the model of e-commerce streets in the province. This is the basis for stimulating domestic consumption, promoting growth in the trade - service sector, creating support for economic growth.
