Cigarettes 'poison' a group of primary school girls, what action does the An Giang education sector take?

In the nearly one-minute clip, five female students in uniforms are seen openly smoking in the schoolyard. Notably, the group also passes around a cigarette, offering it to a male student.

A parent whose child attends the same school as the girls said he has seen them smoking outside the school grounds many times. Adults have warned them, but they do not listen. Most of the girls do not live with their families.

Regarding the incident, on March 31, the leader of the Departmentof Education and Training of An Giang province said that this was a group of students from LHP Primary School, in Long Xuyen City.

"Immediately after receiving the information, the Department contacted the leaders of Long Xuyen City People's Committee and requested to direct a review in the area, requesting the school to coordinate with parents and functional units to handle information, propagate and educate students according to regulations," said this leader.

At noon of the same day, the Department of Education and Training of Long Xuyen City signed a document to send to the principals of affiliated schools in the city to strengthen management, education on ethics, lifestyle and prevention of school violence and electronic cigarettes.

Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training of Long Xuyen City requires heads of units to seriously implement a number of measures such as: Strengthening management and legal propaganda, including actively propagating the harmful effects of using tobacco and e-cigarettes, especially for primary school students.

Heads of units need to carry out legal education activities, raise awareness among students, teachers and parents about continuing to strengthen inspection and prevention of the use of tobacco products and new tobacco products.

At the same time, units will strengthen communication about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and shisha; inspect and strictly handle cases of trading e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in educational institutions.

Units also need to regularly connect with parents to grasp the situation of students, coordinate in educating and managing students. Coordinate with local authorities and functional agencies in the work of preventing tobacco and electronic cigarettes.
