On the morning of March 20, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Pham Hai Hau - Vice Chairman of Ta Thanh Oai Commune People's Committee said that local authorities and Hanoi City Police are working with Dai Thanh apartment management board on the incident.

According to Mr. Hau, last night, residents of buildings CT8A, CT8B and CT8C went down to the apartment lobby to protest the elevator's constant breakdown, affecting people's lives.

"This morning, the Commune People's Committee invited all parties to come and work on this issue. There was absolutely no incident of an elevator falling and many people being trapped as reported on social media. This is completely false information," Vice Chairman of the Ta Thanh Oai Commune People's Committee affirmed.

According to the Vice Chairman of Ta Thanh Oai Commune People's Committee, Dai Thanh apartment building currently has 3 broken elevators including CT8A, CT8B and CT8C.

Every time the elevator breaks down, the management board tells residents to pay for repairs, which makes them angry. In addition, the delay in repairs also affects people's lives.

However, answering VietNamNet, Ms. Nguyen Hang (born in 1986, resident of CT8A building), said: "At 5:40 p.m. on March 19, about 20 people, mostly children, entered the building's elevator to move to their apartment. When they reached the 3rd floor, the elevator suddenly stopped and slid down, getting stuck between the 1st and 2nd floors."

“Being stuck in the elevator for about an hour, the children were scared and screaming, and adults had to try to calm them down. There was even a time when the elevator lost power, making the atmosphere even more tense.

One child showed signs of suffocation, so many adults had to take turns fanning the child by hand to help calm him down and reduce the heat," said Ms. Hang.

Regarding the cause of the incident, Ms. Nguyen Hang informed: "It started because 2 elevators were under maintenance and repair, causing the number of people crowded into the remaining 3 elevators (including a freight elevator - where about 20 people were trapped) to increase suddenly.

The elevator overload situation has lasted for nearly half a month now because 2 elevators have stopped working for maintenance and repair.

"I don't understand why the local authorities insist that the Dai Thanh apartment elevator did not fall, trapping many people," Ms. Nguyen Hang wondered.
