(PLVN) - Today, December 11, nearly 100 delegates, representatives of ministries, branches, VCCI, business associations, enterprises in Hanoi and some neighboring provinces participated in the Workshop "Promoting cooperation towards green growth and enhancing women's economic empowerment".
The workshop was organized by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The workshop was co-sponsored by the Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG) and Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank). This activity is part of the project “Empower: Enhancing women’s economic empowerment through green transformation” sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The workshop was organized with the desire to create opportunities, enhance connections and cooperation between women-owned and led businesses with technology solution providers, banks, financial institutions with green finance programs, financial and non-financial programs for women-owned businesses.
Attending the workshop were Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen, Vice President in charge of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, VCCI; Ms. Nguyen Minh Thao - Head of the Business Environment and Competitiveness Department - Central Institute for Economic Management; Ms. Nguyen Tung Anh - Deputy Head of the Department of Small and Medium Enterprise Support - Enterprise Development Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment; Mr. Oliver Rowntree, Officer in charge of gender and inclusive economy, International Finance Corporation IFC in Vietnam; Mr. Dao Gia Hung - Deputy Director of Small and Medium Enterprise Clients, VPBank; Ms. Duong Ngoc Quynh - Director of Global High Technology and Technical Solutions Company Limited; Ms. Nguyen Pham Cam Tu, General Director of CAS Energy Company Limited.
The workshop was also attended by representatives of more than 60 women-owned businesses, representatives of agencies, organizations, and press agencies.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen, Executive Vice President of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, VCCI shared: “Green transformation and digital transformation are the trends of the times. Promoting cooperation between women-led enterprises and other parties in the context of Green growth is the key to creating a business environment where women can develop their potential and make positive contributions to the increasingly “green” development of enterprises and the whole society.”
She hopes that the workshops and training courses organized by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council and its partners will realize the concepts of green transformation. To make green transformation in the right way, saving costs. She also hopes that experts and policy makers will find new, more economical and faster directions for the green transformation journey of businesses; contributing to building a green, fair and sustainable future.

At the workshop, delegates listened to experts discuss green transformation and policies to support businesses.
Sharing at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Environmental Expert, Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator affirmed: “Green growth and sustainable development have an important role for women and women-owned businesses. The green and sustainable growth program of women-owned businesses has an important contribution to the green and sustainable growth trend of the times.
He also said that the EmPower project has established many business models owned by women that apply energy-saving technology and renewable energy to production and business activities. The application of this energy-saving technology brings very clear economic results and promotes the economic development of enterprises, bringing benefits to many parties as well as contributing to reducing emissions and expanding the application of energy-saving solutions.
“Renewable energy is one of the focuses of the next phase which is essential to support the transition to a green economy and achieve sustainable development goals,” he affirmed.
According to Mr. Phuong: One of the activities we are implementing is to work with partners to identify and support financial and technical solutions for priority groups such as women and women-owned businesses. At the same time, focusing on appropriate technical skills to drive and transform to a sustainable development economy that enhances climate resilience. Including activities with funds, financial institutions, credit institutions such as banks for capacity building activities.
At the workshop, delegates also listened to Dr. Nguyen Minh Thao - Head of the Business Environment and Competitiveness Department, Central Institute for Economic Management, present on market trends and policy requirements on Green Transformation, special notes for Vietnamese enterprises; Ms. Nguyen Tung Anh presented on policies and programs to support women-owned enterprises in the green growth strategy; Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - Vice President of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council presented on the EmPower project: Promoting women's economic empowerment through green transformation; results, lessons learned and plans for the period 2025 - 2027.
In part 2 of the program, delegates participated in the discussion session on Access to Green Finance, Application of Renewable Energy and Low Carbon Technology towards Green Growth. In this discussion session, Mr. Oliver Rowntree, Gender and Inclusive Economy Officer, IFC Vietnam presented solutions and initiatives to support women-owned businesses in the green transition process.

The project “Empower: Enhancing women’s economic empowerment through green transformation” is implemented by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) from January 2024. The project aims to promote gender equality, towards sustainable development and support women-led businesses to increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change; Improve knowledge about business models that reduce carbon emissions and use renewable energy; Increase access to finance, connect investors and promote women’s economic empowerment.
