Promoting cooperation between Vietnam with New Zealand and Peru

On the afternoon of January 10, at the Presidential Palace,President Vo Van Thuong received New Zealand Ambassador Tredene Dobson and Peruvian Ambassador Augusto Morelli to bid farewell at the end of their term of office in Vietnam.

Recalling the special tenure in Vietnam in the context of the world experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, New Zealand Ambassador Tredene Dobson emphasized that in difficult times, New Zealand appreciates Vietnam as a sincere friend, supporting each other to overcome the pandemic and recover the economy .

The two countries resumed high-level dialogue immediately after reopening and the New Zealand Prime Minister chose Vietnam as the first country to visit after the pandemic (November 2022), followed by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue visiting New Zealand (December 2022).

The Ambassador said that he had the opportunity to visit localities in all three regions of Vietnam and expressed his impression of the hospitality and friendliness of the Vietnamese people. The New Zealand Government wishes to promote multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-New Zealand diplomatic relations in 2025.

President Vo Van Thuong was pleased to see that the two countries have promoted multifaceted cooperation to restore socio-economic development, especially in economics, trade and investment. Cooperation in the fields of defense, security, education and training has also achieved good results. The two countries share and support each other in international and multilateral forums. This is a positive foundation to promote bilateral cooperation activities, towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.

Appreciating the Ambassador for his many activities promoting people-to-people exchanges, the President reiterated that on the occasion of the FIFA Women's World Cup held in New Zealand, the Ambassador organized many activities to support and cheer on the Vietnamese Women's Team; contributing to bringing football fans as well as the people of the two countries closer together.

The President hopes that, no matter what position he holds, the Ambassador will always show affection and promote the Vietnam-New Zealand cooperative relationship.

Receiving Peruvian Ambassador Augusto Morelli, President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office in Vietnam, making positive and effective contributions to promoting the good relations between Vietnam and Peru.

Stating that Vietnam is Peru's number one partner in ASEAN, Ambassador Augusto Morelli highly appreciated many Vietnamese investors who are having business cooperation projects in Peru.

The Ambassador conveyed the Peruvian President's greetings to President Vo Van Thuong and said that 2024 will be the third time Peru will host APEC. Peru hopes that Vietnam will support and cooperate with Peru to successfully organize this event; and at the same time, look forward to welcoming the President to attend APEC 2024.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the President and the Vietnamese authorities for helping the Ambassador fulfill his duties during his term and respectfully presented the President with a ceramic gift from Peru, decorated by a Vietnamese artist.

Respectfully receiving the meaningful gift, combining Vietnamese and Peruvian culture, from the Ambassador, President Vo Van Thuong thanked Ambassador Augusto Morelli for his good feelings and love for the culture, country and people of Vietnam.

This year, the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and the President is pleased to see that the two countries have achieved positive cooperation results in many areas. Peru is an important partner of Vietnam in Latin America; the two sides also sincerely share visions and support each other at regional and international forums.

The President appreciated Peru's support for Vietnamese businesses investing in Peru and hoped that the two countries would make further efforts to increase bilateral trade turnover.

Recalling his trip to attend the APEC Summit Week in the United States in November 2023, the President said he met and discussed with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra. The two sides agreed to promote the organization of many practical and meaningful activities towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Peru diplomatic relations in 2024.

Thanking the President of Peru for the invitation to attend the APEC 2024 event, President Vo Van Thuong said that Vietnam will actively coordinate and support Peru in successfully assuming the role of host country. Vietnam thanks Peru for supporting Vietnam in hosting APEC 2027.

The President wished the Ambassador success in his new position and always strives to promote the good Vietnam-Peru relationship.
