On the afternoon of January 12, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who is on a state visit to Vietnam.
Welcoming and welcoming President Joko Widodo to visit Vietnam for the second time, the National Assembly Chairman also emphasized that this visit of President Joko Widodo is of great significance as the two countries have just celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2013-2023).
The National Assembly Chairman shared his good impressions during his official visit to Indonesia in August 2023, about the warm, hospitable, and sincere welcome that the President and the people of Indonesia gave to the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly, as well as the important discussion with President Joko Widodo on a number of directions to promote bilateral relations through various channels, including the National Assembly.
The National Assembly Chairman congratulated and highly appreciated Indonesia for its great achievements in economic development, ensuring social security, actively promoting its leading role in ASEAN, regional and international organizations; successfully assuming the G20 Chairmanship in 2022, ASEAN Chairmanship and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2023; and at the same time, he said that in Indonesia's overall success, there is an important role of the President and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Appreciating the successful talks between President Vo Van Thuong and President Joko Widodo, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his belief that Indonesia will successfully organize the General Election in February 2024. Vietnam always attaches importance to and strives to cooperate with Indonesia to promote the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership to become more substantial and extensive, meeting the aspirations and interests of the people of the two countries as well as the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries that were established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno and nurtured by generations of leaders of the two countries.

President Joko Widodo thanked National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for his warm welcome. The President emphasized that the two countries' strategic partnership has achieved results with concrete cooperation.
During the talks with President Vo Van Thuong, the two sides exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding on Information and Communications Technology Cooperation and the Memorandum of Understanding on Fisheries Cooperation. The President said that this is the time for the two countries to promote bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in digitalization and high-tech industry, in order to achieve common achievements.
The President highly appreciated the role of the National Assembly in promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in building institutions and policies to accelerate the energy transition and self-reliance in the renewable energy sector, digital transformation, innovation, etc.
Agreeing with the opinion of the President of Indonesia, the National Assembly Chairman hoped that the two countries would elevate their relations to a new level at the appropriate time. The National Assembly Chairman emphasized the need to increase delegation exchanges at all levels and channels, improve the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms; encourage the expansion of cooperation between localities and friendship associations of the two countries to contribute to promoting people-to-people exchanges. The two sides should promote cooperation on Halal food; continue to increase rice trade; promote and diversify investment and business cooperation.
Aiming to bring bilateral trade turnover to 15 billion USD, the Indonesian President said that the two sides should actively cooperate by developing specific policies and methods to achieve this goal by 2028.

Sharing that since the beginning of its term, the Vietnamese National Assembly has issued many institutions, policies, and laws related to energy conversion, renewable energy, digital transformation, innovation, etc., the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Indonesia; at the same time, he welcomed and requested Indonesia to create favorable conditions and legal procedures for the joint venture between the two countries to soon come into operation in Indonesia to contribute to building an electric vehicle and battery ecosystem.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the two sides should focus on implementing existing mechanisms on maritime cooperation; enhancing maritime cooperation and sustainable fishing; and coordinating to resolve in good faith and humanity issues related to fishermen and fishing vessels in accordance with the Strategic Partnership.
The two sides will continue to coordinate more closely through both the Government and Parliamentary channels to contribute to strengthening solidarity, unity, and the central role of ASEAN, promoting the role of AIPA as well as maintaining peace and stability in the region. Indonesia and Vietnam will cooperate according to the ASEAN perspective on the East Sea; promote the implementation of the DOC and coordinate in negotiating an effective and efficient COC in accordance with international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.
The Indonesian President highly appreciated the close cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Indonesian House of Representatives, and welcomed the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Indonesian House of Representatives (August 2023). President Joko Widodo also affirmed his support for strengthening cooperation, exchanges, and experience sharing between the two legislative bodies, including exchanges of high-level delegations...
At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested that the two countries support each other at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN, AIPA and ASEAN-led mechanisms, the United Nations, and the Non-Aligned Movement on regional and international security and strategic issues. Indonesia supports Vietnam's initiative to host the "ASEAN Future Forum on Rapid, Sustainable, People-Centered Development" and sends a high-ranking representative to attend.
