Ward 2 is considered the culinary center of Dong Ha City, where there are many unique delicacies that attract tourists to enjoy during daily time frames. To promote this strength, contribute to job creation, increase income, and socio-economic development, Ward 2 has made many efforts to spread culinary values.

With a history of hundreds of years of living and developing on the banks of the Hieu River with rich specialties, convenient for cultivation, exploitation, and aquaculture, the people of Ward 2, Dong Ha City are always conscious in the way of processing dishes from local ingredients to serve people's lives better and better. Over time, the culinary products of Ward 2 also meet the enjoyment needs of the majority of people, including tourists.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Em, owner of the duck porridge and snakehead fish rice porridge shop at 29 Mac Dinh Chi Street, said that she sells porridge twice a day. In the morning, she sells from 6am to 7am and the porridge is sold out by then, and in the afternoon, she starts selling fish porridge from 3pm to 4pm. Many people admit that her porridge is very delicious, but she only cooks and sells 4 pots each day. Those who come late will run out of porridge, but she does not cook more. She shared that over time, she adjusts the seasoning to suit the taste of her customers, so her duck porridge and snakehead fish rice porridge are very popular.

In fact, Ward 2's cuisine is mainly daily rustic dishes, well-prepared snacks, with unique local flavors, suitable for the needs and tastes of diners. Some delicious dishes in the morning include duck porridge, snakehead fish rice porridge, chicken sticky rice, corn sticky rice, wet rice cakes...; in the afternoon, there are light dishes such as: banh beo, banh loc, banh nam, mien thau, bun nghe, beef porridge...

Many of the restaurants here have been in business for decades, generations of families passing on the secrets to making delicious dishes. Initially, the locals prepared the dishes for their families, then sold them to a small group in the alleys and neighborhoods. The reputation spread far and wide, and many tourists came to enjoy them.

Chairman of Ward 2 People's Committee Nguyen Duy Duc said that recently, as the city has developed at a rapid urbanization rate, many households in Ward 2 have expanded their shops and food services, and revenue from food business has become their main source of income.

In addition to a number of households that mainly take advantage of their residential space to sell goods, the rest are small business groups concentrated in locations such as: intersections of Dang Dung - Mac Dinh Chi street clusters; Ngo Si Lien - Kim Dong; Phan Huy Chu - Ngo Si Lien... creating convenience and many choices for diners when coming to Ward 2. In particular, there is an advantage that households selling food because they take advantage of available residential space and gardens, so the prices of dishes are quite cheap, thus attracting a large number of customers.

Recently, Ward 2 People's Committee organized a festival to promote and develop culinary values, launching a Propaganda and Mobilization Working Group consisting of 9 members headed by the Vice Chairman of the Ward People's Committee and members who are the Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the Ward's associations and organizations. The task of the group, in addition to sharing information with households doing culinary business, is to continue to mobilize other households in the area to participate in order to develop with the ward, promote the brand of delicious, quality, reasonably priced cuisine, a friendly business environment and create more jobs for workers.

In particular, the board will coordinate with local people and relevant units to research new and effective products and business forms from other places, suitable for the locality, to develop new products and business forms, creating richness and diversity to attract tourists.

Currently, the ward is managing the fanpage "Ward 2 Cuisine" to promote Ward 2's dishes to diners in and outside the province, including information about food images, sales hours, prices, addresses, and phone numbers of businesses so that diners can conveniently contact for business transactions and services. News, articles, and images are updated weekly. It is expected that in the near future, the ward will create clips promoting the processing of attractive culinary products to reach more diners.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Duc added: In order to further spread the culinary value of Ward 2, the Ward People's Committee has Plan No. 97/KH-UBND dated October 6, 2023 on implementing Resolution No. 49-NQ/DU dated October 2, 2023 of the Ward 2 Party Committee to "innovate the service industry towards promoting the local culinary service industry in the period of 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030".

Specifically, the city proposes to establish a concentrated culinary service area typical of Ward 2 and to promote the establishment of 1 to 2 streets (Dang Dung and Bui Thi Xuan streets) specializing in culinary business, prioritizing investment in eye-catching decoration to create highlights and attract diners to Ward 2.

Currently, the Ward People's Committee is coordinating with the competent authorities to review the land fund in the ward to propose to the City People's Committee to unify the land fund to establish a concentrated food service area to create conditions for workers who do not have a location to register their business in the concentrated land area. In addition, the Ward People's Committee will propose to create conditions for food business households to access low-interest capital sources to invest in promoting the development of the food service industry.
