Continuing the tradition of scientific research, in the 2024-2025 school year, Quang Tri Town High School received good news when the project "Eye-controlled wheelchair to support people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in moving and communicating" by two students Cao Trung Quan and Le Minh Hieu won first prize at the National Science and Technology Research Competition in the 2024-2025 school year and was selected to attend the 2025 International Science and Technology Fair (ISEF 2025) in the United States.
This is also the second time that students of Quang Tri High School have had a science and technology project selected to compete internationally. The first important milestone in the school's history of scientific research is the project "Robotic arm for the disabled" by Pham Huy. This project not only demonstrates the creativity and efforts of the individual but also becomes a source of pride for the entire school when it won the third prize at Intel ISEF 2017, one of the world's largest science and technology competitions held in the US.
Phan Thien Nga, Principal of Quang Tri Town High School, happily said: “The school always puts the goal of developing scientific research and innovation first. Every year, we develop a detailed plan to guide students on how to write a systematic research topic, helping them grasp theoretical and practical knowledge.
Organize school-level competitions and STEM Festivals to create opportunities for students to gain practical experience and apply the knowledge they have learned, and select an advisory board to review and train them before participating in provincial competitions. With this systematic and scientific approach, we hope that more and more students will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to participate in scientific research activities, contributing to improving the quality of education at school."
In order to promote the development and application of science and technology in education, the Department of Education and Training has issued a document guiding the implementation of scientific research and organizing science and technology competitions for high school students during the school year. Scientific research activities and organizing science and technology competitions for high school students in the province have achieved many positive results.
High school students have applied their knowledge well to solve practical problems to contribute to innovation in teaching and testing methods, evaluation, promoting STEM education in general education, and improving the overall quality of education in schools.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, many science and technology products of high school students have won high prizes in domestic and international competitions, including two first prizes at the national science and technology competition selected to participate in the international competition and one project has won an international prize. Notably, in the 2024-2025 school year, the student delegation of Quang Tri province won 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 1 third prize at the National Science and Technology Research Competition for middle and high school students.
During the 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years, the Department of Education and Training organized and participated in the "Students with Startup Ideas" Contest at both the provincial and national levels, winning 1 First Prize and 1 Third Prize at the national level.
In addition, the Department of Education and Training also coordinated with the Provincial Radio and Television Station to organize the Conquering Contest for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. At the same time, cooperated with the Provincial Youth Union to organize the contests "Young Creativity of Quang Tri Province" and "Young Informatics of Quang Tri Province", thereby selecting typical products to participate in the National Youth, Adolescent and Children's Creativity Contest.
Training on scientific research methods for managers and teachers across the province has brought about many practical results in applying scientific and technological achievements to management and teaching. The scientific research topics implemented include many different areas such as: planning, organizing activities in schools, innovating teaching content, testing and evaluating students, as well as applying information technology in educational management.
Every year, the whole sector has more than 1,300 scientific topics and initiatives recognized by the Science Council at the sector and district levels. Director of the Department of Education and Training Le Thi Huong shared: “In recent years, the outstanding achievements of students in scientific research activities, especially in national playgrounds, are not accidental but are the result of the crystallization of many important factors.
To achieve these achievements, the education sector has done a good job of advising provincial leaders, creating all favorable conditions for schools to effectively implement scientific research activities. Every year, the Department of Education and Training has specific instructions, helping to create an important legal corridor for educational institutions to proactively implement. The organization of scientific research competitions and contests has been carried out on a large scale and systematically.
From the form of scientific organization to the content of selection and training for topics, all are focused on to ensure meeting the requirements of provincial and national competitions. The scientific research movement in the whole industry has become widespread, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and learning.
In 2025, the Department of Education and Training will continue to promote the development of science and technology research and innovation with specific orientations. One of the top goals is to build an online education and training platform, as well as develop a digital education model to enhance digital capacity in society. Deploy a learning management system (LMS) to support more effective teaching and learning.
In addition, STEM education will continue to be strongly implemented in general education institutions. The Department will coordinate with the Dariu Foundation to build 2 Makerspace rooms in 2 high schools. At the same time, research and advise the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan to implement STEM education for the period 2026-2030 to perfect the creative educational environment, encourage the development of critical thinking and the ability to apply knowledge into practice for the younger generation.
