Promoting comprehensive cooperation between Gyeonggi-Do province (Korea) and Nghe An

Within the framework of the visit and work in Nghe An, on the afternoon of January 16, the delegation of the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council of Korea led by Mr. Mun Hyung Kun had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council.

Welcoming and working with the delegation were comrades: Nguyen Nam Dinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; leaders of departments, the Office of the National Assembly and the Provincial People's Council.

At the meeting, Mr. Mun Hyung Kun said: Gyeonggi-Do is the most populous province in Korea with an area of ​​11,730 km², population accounting for 48% of the national population, is the region with the most important position in terms of politics, economy and culture of Korea.

Gyeonggi-Do is also famous for local products, especially Incheon rice, Incheon/Gwangju ceramics; it is also home to global information technology corporations, such as: Suwon Samsung Semiconductor, Paju's, LG LCD Complex Group, Incheon's SK Hynix,...

Gyeonggi-Do province is also home to many Vietnamese and Nghe An workers.

Over the years, Gyeonggi-Do province has strengthened cooperation activities with Vietnamese provinces and cities in all fields.

Since 2005, Vinh city, Nghe An province and Namyangju city, Gyeonggi-Do province have established cooperative relations. Nghe An province and Gyeonggi-Do province have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish cooperative relations. In recent times, the two provinces have had many activities, exchanges, and cooperation in investment, trade, tourism, culture, sports, and education.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council, Comrade Nguyen Nam Dinh - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council was pleased to welcome the delegation of the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council of Korea to visit and work in Nghe An.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council introduced the general geographical and social characteristics and socio-economic potential of Nghe An. Currently, Nghe An is a key locality in Vietnam in attracting foreign investment, and for the past 2 consecutive years, Nghe An has been in the top 10 localities attracting the highest FDI in the country.

As for Korea, there are currently 24 investment projects in Nghe An with a capital of nearly 170 million USD and are forecast to continue to increase strongly in the coming time. The import and export turnover between Nghe An and Korea accounts for more than 20% of the total import and export turnover of the whole province.

Standing Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Council Nguyen Nam Dinh also proposed that the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council would be a bridge to introduce businesses and corporations of the province to cooperate and invest in the fields of trade, tourism and culture in Nghe An. At the same time, he proposed the desire to have a direct flight between the two provinces to facilitate exchanges between leaders, people and business communities of the two provinces.

“Through the exchange, it is shown that the two provinces have many opportunities to cooperate in various fields. I hope that the People's Councils of the two provinces should take the lead in "opening up" the cooperation between the two localities. After this working visit, the two sides will assign offices and committees to discuss and agree on areas of cooperation to "pave the way" for trade and investment between Nghe An and Gyeonggi-Do provinces" - Comrade Nguyen Nam Dinh emphasized.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed and exchanged issues to further strengthen and promote the cooperative relationship in the coming time such as: Organizing exchanges to connect businesses of both sides; organizing conferences and seminars on investment, trade and tourism; organizing Famtrip and Presstrip delegations to survey tourism products and services and participate in cultural and tourism activities and events organized by both sides; strongly promoting educational and training cooperation activities to complement each other for mutual development.

On behalf of the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council delegation, Mr. Mun Hyung Kun thanked the warm welcome from the Standing Committee of the Nghe An Provincial People's Council. During this working trip, the delegation will pay attention to learning more about the potential strengths of the locality. At the same time, propose and introduce more connections between organizations and businesses of Gyeonggi-Do province to seek investment cooperation opportunities in Nghe An.
