Need to increase support resources

As the city's main manufacturing and exporting enterprise with export markets in nearly 50 countries around the world, Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC) is facing many difficulties due to tariff policies as well as fluctuations in the world. DRC General Director Le Hoang Khanh Nhut said that the enterprise aims to increase exports to the US market by 25-30% in 2025, but with current fluctuations, this goal is very difficult to achieve. Currently, DRC must change its main export market, speed up the expansion of the market to Eastern Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, etc. to compensate for output from the main market.

Faced with the above situation, DRC proposed that the city develop appropriate support policies to reduce input costs, thereby reducing prices and increasing product competitiveness; at the same time, promoting trade promotion programs and the program "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods". In addition, it is necessary to continue supporting businesses in digital transformation to convert to modern production methods.

Meanwhile, Deputy General Director of Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company Le Thi Minh Thao said that the US imposition of new taxes will greatly impact key products such as shrimp, fish, etc., which are currently subject to high input costs. Through research, the desire of most seafood export enterprises is to find export directions to new markets and continue to wait for the Government's negotiations on balancing the trade balance with the United States. Regarding proposals, enterprises hope to soon have policies to support enterprises to reduce the cost of product production. In 2024, electricity prices have been adjusted twice, especially during peak hours, the price has increased very high, in addition, the cost of warehousing and port lifting has increased steadily over the years, causing many difficulties for enterprises.

Chairman of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises Pham Bac Binh highly appreciated the city’s efforts in the past two years to promote the early operation of industrial parks and industrial clusters, creating conditions for enterprises to have land for production. The business community also expects that when the city expands its administrative boundaries, there will be room for industrial development.

Regarding the proposal, Mr. Binh said that the city's export promotion programs in the past have had very few small and medium enterprises participating, mainly because the resources of these enterprises are limited, so they cannot spend much on trade promotion. Therefore, enterprises hope that the city will continue to increase resources for business support programs; increase infrastructure investment, boost public investment, and soon put Lien Chieu port into operation to attract large shipping lines and attract cargo flows to Da Nang.

City develops with businesses

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong said that up to now, Da Nang has exported to more than 120 countries and territories. Some market areas with large export turnover include Northeast Asia at about 46%, America at 25%; Europe at 15%; Southeast Asia at 5%. In particular, some countries with large export proportions such as Japan at about 35%; the United States at about 20%...

Da Nang aims to increase its export growth rate by 8-9% in 2025 compared to 2024. To achieve this goal, the city has identified promoting production and import-export enterprises as the most important issue that needs to be promoted, focusing on the following groups of solutions: developing production and expanding markets; developing logistics; reforming administrative procedures; and developing human resources.

Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) Tran Thanh Hai commented that Da Nang is gradually affirming its role as a high-tech, sustainable and modern production and export center. Specifically, Da Nang is considered a locality with outstanding development potential thanks to owning Tien Sa port - one of the important seaports in the Central region, an international airport with large exploitation capacity, and a strategic geographical location on the East-West economic corridor, connecting countries in the Greater Mekong sub-region.

Mr. Hai proposed that Da Nang should soon form and deploy, attract investment in the free trade zone right after the Prime Minister decided to establish it, thereby synchronously connecting ports - airports - railways - roads - logistics centers. The city needs to invest in and form modern logistics centers, distribution centers with high automation levels, and build specialized logistics centers serving e-commerce logistics and high-value goods. At the same time, it is necessary to build preferential mechanisms on tax, land, and finance to attract investment in the logistics sector; improve the investment - business environment, and remove difficulties for enterprises operating in the logistics sector.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong, Da Nang has been making continuous efforts to improve the investment and business environment to promote the strong development of the business community, especially in the fields of production, import-export and logistics. The opinions at the conference are an important basis for the city to continue to supplement and perfect policies, remove barriers and create a more favorable business environment.

After the conference, the City People's Committee will continue to direct relevant departments, branches and sectors to focus on reviewing and resolving issues raised by businesses, especially in the areas of administrative procedures, tax policies, credit, logistics infrastructure, market expansion and improving business competitiveness. On the business community side, it is necessary to proactively exploit traditional markets; focus on developing niche markets and new export markets to compensate for the decline in orders. In addition, promote business restructuring, restructure production systems, labor training, pay attention to investing in machinery and equipment, and innovate to create new products, green products, environmentally friendly products and achieve international standard certifications, meeting the increasingly high requirements of export markets.

Businesses seek suitable solutions to the impact of tariffs
On April 18, the International Trade Club and the Logistics Club (Da Nang Young Entrepreneurs Association) organized a Business Cafe program with the theme "Impact of US import tax on Vietnamese enterprises - Perspectives from experts and enterprises". The program had the participation of about 100 enterprises to update practical information, and at the same time expand the output of import-export, production and logistics enterprises. According to Mr. Christopher Vanloon, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam - Da Nang Branch (Amcham Da Nang), Amcham discussed with members, especially companies participating in importing from the United States to Vietnam to have more specific proposals for the next steps to increase the volume of US imports into Vietnam. Mr. Christopher Vanloon also suggested that import-export enterprises closely follow the market, respond flexibly to organize effective production and business plans; Actively and proactively advise and propose to competent authorities on appropriate mechanisms, policies and measures to support the removal of trade barriers to facilitate business operations.
