The match at Kallang Stadium, Singapore on the evening of December 17 determined the first team of Group A of the AFF Cup 12 (ASEAN Cup) to enter the semi-finals.
The Singapore and Thailand teams gave the audience some exciting high-speed football. The home team created excitement in the stands with two high-class masterpieces.
Shawal Anuar and Faris Ramli took turns firing spectacular long-range shots that gave the Thai goalkeeper no chance to block. Singapore unexpectedly took a 2-goal lead in the first half.
However, even though they were down 0-2, Thailand showed their mettle as defending champions. The team from the land of the golden pagodas still controlled the game, attacked continuously and created many threatening situations.
Patrik Gustavsson rekindled the visitors' hopes of a point with a goal in first-half stoppage time. The Thai players showed composure and precision in the lightning-fast attack.
The visitors continued to pressure their opponents early in the second half and equalized. Suphanat Mueanta escaped the Singapore defenders and headed the ball home.
The Thai team did not stop there. Pansa Hemviboon headed the home team's goal from a corner kick in the 71st minute. However, after 3 minutes of consulting with VAR and reviewing the video, the referee canceled the goal because he determined that a Thai player had fouled the goalkeeper.
Singapore's defense faced great pressure in the final minutes of the match. Thailand persisted in attacking and completed the comeback in extra time.
Peeradon Chamratsamee's close-range shot was ruled offside. However, the referee studied the situation for nearly 5 minutes and changed his decision, awarding the goal to Thailand.
Singapore went all out in the attack in the few minutes of extra time. The home team had clear chances but failed to capitalize. Shortly after, Thailand scored again in the final attack of the match to seal a 4-2 victory, becoming the first team to enter the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2024. The team from the Golden Temple is also certain to top Group A.
