Jordan lost 1-3 to Qatar, missing out on their first Asian Cup title. However, coach Hussein Ammouta had a big role in taking his team to the final match of the tournament. The Moroccan coach said he was not sure if he would continue to lead Jordan.
" At the moment, I cannot speak clearly about the future with the Jordan team. I am facing some family circumstances in Morocco and I have to focus on them at the moment. I will evaluate all options and make the right decision for the future. At this point, I am still carrying out my duties as national team coach ," coach Hussein Ammouta shared.
Coach Hussein Ammouta is not sure to continue leading the Jordan team.
Coach Hussein Ammouta signed a contract with Jordan in June last year. The contract runs until July 2026. This coach has an impressive resume, having won the African Champions League and the CAN.
Before the 2023 Asian Cup, he had not won any matches with Jordan. Therefore, he faced great pressure from public opinion. However, the runner-up position in this tournament reaffirmed the talent of Coach Ammouta.
" Thank you for what we achieved at the Asian Cup. We tried our best throughout the tournament and showed good form that impressed everyone. We played successfully in some matches but there were also some weak points. Overall, we showed a respectable performance, worthy of the Jordan national team ," said Hussein Ammouta.
Speaking more about the final, coach Ammouta commented: " Unfortunately, the match did not go as we planned. In the first half, the team did not play well and the penalties created difficulties for the Jordan team ."
After this tournament, Jordan will aim for the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. They are having a poor run of form, drawing and losing to Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia in their first two matches. Next March, the team will face Pakistan.
