With its quiet, airy space and scientifically organized collection of over 7,000 books, the friendly library at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School (Lien Son town) is a favorite spot for students during recess.

Nguyen Diem Quynh, a student in class 3D, said: "During recess, my friends and I often go to the library to read. The library has many kinds of books and stories suitable for our age. Because we have little time, I usually choose stories that are easy to read and remember, such as 'Gordon Shouldn't Be Arrogant,' 'Actually, I'm Very Talented,' 'The Diamond Castle,' and many Vietnamese fairy tales."

Similarly, Ha Gia Linh, a student in class 3B, also enjoys visiting the school library. Besides books and stories, the library also has magazines for students, including articles about exemplary students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have excelled in their studies. Reading these articles gives her more motivation to study harder.

Ms. Ho Thi Hue, a librarian at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School, said that with an area of 120 square meters, the library houses more than 7,000 books of various kinds. To make it easier for students to find the books they need, the library arranges bookshelves according to type. Every year, the school allocates funds to add books to serve the reading and reference needs of staff, teachers, and students. In addition, they launch a campaign to collect used books to enrich the library and provide students with more reading material.

Besides enriching the library's collection, the school also organizes many reading activities to foster students' passion for reading. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school established a library working group with 60 members, including representatives from the school administration, library, teachers, and students. The student members are selected based on their passion for reading. Under the guidance of library staff, they select good books and introduce them to the school or within their classes during group activities.

In addition, the school also organizes monthly storytelling sessions during flag-raising ceremonies on relevant themes. These include stories about teachers in remote areas who dedicate themselves to bringing literacy to students, often told on Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20th); or stories about hardworking mothers who make sacrifices so their children can go to school. Many stories about the spirit of overcoming difficulties and striving for academic excellence among students in remote and island areas are recounted concisely and effectively by the students themselves…

Students at Nguyen Van Troi Primary School read books during recess.

At Nguyen Van Troi Primary School (Dak Lieng commune), where nearly 90% of the students are from ethnic minority groups, attracting them to learn and explore stories through books is always a priority for the school's management and library staff.

During recess, at the library, students divide into groups to read books and stories and exchange knowledge with each other in a relaxed manner. Depending on their interests, they choose books that are suitable for their age.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the library of Nguyen Van Troi Primary School has over 6,000 books, divided into four categories: textbooks, professional books, reference books, and children's books. Each book is numbered with a unique code and arranged on shelves according to category for easy searching by students. In particular, the "Green Library" activity, held regularly every Thursday morning, has become a valuable recreational activity for students throughout the school.

According to Mr. Phan Thai Son, Principal of Nguyen Van Troi Primary School, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 17 classes with 466 students, of which 413 are ethnic minority students. In addition to regular lessons, reading activities are integrated into various other activities such as the green library program and book introductions during flag-raising ceremonies.

According to Nguyen Van Ngoc, Head of the Education and Training Department of Lak District, the friendly library models have become a beneficial playground, contributing to the development of reading, listening, and speaking skills for students in schools. In particular, this model stimulates creativity, helps children develop intellectually, and nurtures their souls through age-appropriate books.
