The launching ceremony of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2025 with the theme "With books, entering the era of national development" was recently held by the Provincial People's Committee at Bat Xat District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities on April 17. At the launching ceremony, along with meaningful messages, the program also had many practical activities to honor the value of books and foster a love of books for students.

As one of the units directly implementing the program, the Provincial Library has had a series of response activities such as: displaying and introducing 350 publications and documents to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification; displaying various types of geography books, popular science books, age psychology books, life skills, sexeducation , career guidance, etc. In addition, participating in the program, students can also see 50 excellent entries of the Lao Cai Province Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in previous years.
Also at the launching ceremony, to create a highlight and a joyful and exciting space for students, the Provincial Library also organized a mobile library with supporting activities such as: promoting the role and importance of books in the community; instructing students on reading skills and book selection; organizing intellectual, physical and entertaining games related to books; introducing and promoting the Lao Cai Provincial Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in 2025.

Ms. Pham Thi Bich Dung, Director of the Provincial Library, said: The launching ceremony of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2025 is very important, helping the community better understand the role of books in daily life and study, especially in the era of national development and growth. The Provincial Library has worked hard to prepare a series of interesting and useful activities to help foster love and passion for books for children. Not only carried out at the ceremony, the activities of "bringing books to find readers" are organized regularly, targeting remote areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas.
Due to the fragmented terrain, transportation from villages and communes to district, city and provincial centers - where there are abundant sources of books - is still difficult. Therefore, with the goal of "bringing books to readers" to bring books closer to the public, in recent years, Lao Cai Provincial Library has actively implemented a mobile library model called "Light of Knowledge".

With a truck design model, the mobile library can go anywhere in the province, especially where facilities and access to books are limited. Two large bookshelves are placed parallel on both sides of the truck. Each bookshelf contains thousands of books suitable for all ages and needs. Each mobile vehicle is also equipped with computers connected to the network to meet the needs of readers to look up documents about good books on the Provincial Library Portal. At each stop, which is a remote school, the mobile library always receives a warm welcome from young readers. The children are excited to look up books and borrow books to read right in the school yard. Each page is turned with curiosity and interest.
Along with that, to create a source of books on the spot, convenient for people to look up and read, in early 2025, implementing Project 6 under the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas of Lao Cai Province for the period 2021 - 2030, the Provincial Library handed over 17 bookcases with a total of more than 5,400 books to serve the community in 17 communes in Region III of districts and towns in the province. Each bookcase uses the VietBiblio digital platform to create a database and an electronic information page for lookup; QR codes help look up, find documents and read digital documents, making it convenient for readers to access and look up anytime, anywhere.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kim Son Commune (Bao Yen District) said: Kim Son is one of 17 communes receiving a community bookcase. The bookcase has hundreds of books with diverse content, from policy and law propaganda to popularizing knowledge about disease prevention, health care, agricultural production, prevention of social evils and domestic violence... The bookcase contributes to better meeting the needs of learning, entertainment, supplementing scientific and technical knowledge applied to production, spreading reading culture strongly in the community.
In 2024 alone, the Provincial Library transferred more than 16,800 books to the facilities serving nearly 183,000 readers; supplemented the facilities with more than 3,450 books, nearly ten types of newspapers and magazines to build grassroots bookcases in remote communes; issued 3,900/3,000 reader cards, exceeding the assigned plan by 30%, serving 104,800 readers. The mobile library project named "Light of Knowledge" has served more than 130 sessions in localities with many attractive supporting activities...
With many effective methods, the Provincial Library has made an important contribution to forming the habit of reading and loving books among the people.
