On the morning of July 1, in Seoul, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a discussion and had breakfast with leaders of several large Korean corporations.

At the same time, the head of the Vietnamese Government also expressed his desire to understand more about the difficulties of Korean enterprises in order to work together to "resolve difficulties and promote favorable conditions".
Ready to participate in wind power and gas power projects in Vietnam
Mr. Huh Yongsoo, Chairman of GS Energy Group, said that the group invested in the Long An power plant with a scale of 3 billion USD. In 2021, the company was granted an investment certificate and by September 2023, it had conducted a pre-feasibility report.
Expressing hope that in the near future, this project will be put into operation and provide electricity to Vietnam according to the 8th power plan, Mr. Yongsoo hopes that the Prime Minister and Vietnamese agencies will support the group in investment as well as allow the implementation of global financial mechanisms and legal support.
Mr. Jung Yeonin, Vice President of Doosan Enerbility Group (a group with investment projects in Quang Ngai) expressed his willingness to participate in wind power and gas power projects in Vietnam to help Vietnam achieve its carbon neutrality goal.
He expressed his hope that the Prime Minister and Vietnamese agencies would support and care so that the company could bring its turbine products manufactured in Vietnam to projects in Vietnam.
"We are ready to transfer and train specialized human resources with Vietnam," said Mr. Jung Yeonin.
Mr. Lee Kye In, Chairman of Posco International Group, said that the group is currently producing 2.3 million tons of steel in Vietnam with a revenue of 1.5 - 2 billion USD per year. The company has projects related to gas production, transportation and consumption in Vietnam and has successfully participated in the Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant project.
He said that the group is currently investing in the Quynh Lap LNG thermal power project in Nghe An. He believes that this project will contribute to promoting the local economy and successfully lead Vietnam's gas transportation capacity.
In addition, the group also wants to participate in rare earth projects and other projects in Vietnam.
Mr. Jung In Sub, Chairman of Hanwha Aerospace Group, wishes to provide aircraft engine maintenance and repair services to Vietnam. Because currently, Vietnamese airlines have to go abroad to maintain engines.
Together we promote "new horizons of cooperation"
Appreciating the contributions to Vietnam's development over the past 30 years, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung hopes that Korean enterprises will continue to invest in Vietnam, focusing on high technology, high added value; digital transformation; and green transformation.
“We are committed to supporting your investment in accordance with the Vietnamese Government's orientation on green energy,” said the Minister of Planning and Investment.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien added that the Prime Minister has approved energy plans and the Ministry is finalizing the mechanism. In the energy sector alone, Vietnam has a growth rate of 6-6.5%, so the demand for electricity is very high.
To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, Vietnam must double its current power capacity to 150,000 MW, and by 2050 it must reach 510,000 MW, eight times the current total capacity. Therefore, the need to attract investment in the energy sector is extremely large.
To ensure energy demand in all situations, the Government and the Prime Minister have directed 6 solutions, including the need to improve the competitive mechanism in the development and purchase of electricity, especially the competitive retail market. Currently, the competitive electricity generation market and competitive wholesale electricity market have performed quite well.
The Government also directed the development of rooftop solar power in the direction of self-production and self-consumption; reviewed and adjusted the electricity price mechanism according to the market mechanism for all types. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a price list for investors to refer to.
According to Mr. Dien, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is submitting to the Government and the National Assembly a specific mechanism for the development of gas-fired and offshore wind power. In which, gas-fired power sets a minimum electricity output consumption rate and a mechanism for converting gas prices to electricity prices. Vietnam is also cooperating in researching new energy investments such as the production of renewable energy equipment.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has reached a cooperation agreement in the energy and mineral sectors and hopes to have cooperation from Korean businesses.
Welcoming the proposal of enterprises to participate in aircraft engine maintenance, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that enterprises will contact Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet to negotiate cooperation agreements.
"Vietnam is developing the aviation industry because the aviation economy is growing stronger. Vietnam is also building Long Thanh airport, Da Nang airport, Chu Lai airport, expanding Noi Bai airport... so aircraft maintenance is very necessary," the head of the Vietnamese Government affirmed.
The Prime Minister welcomed and hoped that leading Korean corporations would continue to expand their investment and cooperation with Vietnam, together promoting "new cooperation horizons", based on a "global, comprehensive, and all-people" approach, towards the target of bilateral trade turnover of 100 billion USD by 2025 and 150 billion USD by 2030.
He also expects Korean enterprises to support Vietnam in training high-quality human resources and smart management; helping Vietnamese enterprises participate in the value chain of Korean enterprises as well as the global value chain.
Emphasizing the message of “listening and understanding together; working and enjoying together; winning and developing together”, with the spirit of “harmonious benefits and shared risks”, the head of the Vietnamese Government hopes that Korean enterprises will continue to invest in Vietnam to contribute to the development of the two countries, bringing a good life to the people of the two countries.
