Speaking at the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that on December 22, 2023, nearly 2 billion people around the world received good news when the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing Lunar New Year as an annual holiday of the United Nations.
For Vietnam, the annual traditional Tet holiday has an important meaning, it is an occasion for family and community reunion, sharing, and bonding; for everyone, every household to look back on the past year, express gratitude, send wishes and hope for a better new year.
Among the Ambassadors and Heads of Representative Agencies, many have welcomed and experienced the Tet atmosphere in Vietnam, and perhaps all feel the meaning and traditional and humane values of this important holiday.
The year 2023 has just passed with many complex fluctuations. The Prime Minister said that Vietnam has "overcome the waves, firmly steered the boat", "turned the situation around, transformed the state", achieved important results in many fields with many outstanding marks.
On behalf of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, the Prime Minister sincerely thanks the Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires and Heads of International Organizations for their sincere sentiments, effective cooperation and valuable support for Vietnam.
The Prime Minister stated that in 2024, the world and regional situation is forecast to continue to develop in a complex and unpredictable manner; but peace, cooperation and development are still the mainstream, the major trend, and the common aspiration of mankind.
Trends in digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, knowledge economy, innovation, startups, emerging industries and fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor chips, etc. and regional and international economic cooperation and linkages are opening up many new opportunities, new choices, and new development spaces for countries.
According to the Prime Minister, to turn those opportunities and potentials into new driving forces to serve humanity's aspirations for peace and development, it requires the efforts and solidarity of each country and the whole world.
Therefore, the Prime Minister believes that strengthening strategic trust, sincerity and sharing responsibility are the most fundamental and important factors to overcome difficulties and challenges together; promoting solidarity and international cooperation is the fundamental solution for countries to narrow differences, resolve disputes and conflicts by peaceful means, based on international law...
On the basis of persistently and consistently pursuing an independent, self-reliant, diversified and multilateral foreign policy, Vietnam is a good friend, a reliable partner and an active and responsible member of the international community, for the goals of peace, cooperation and development.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will continue to make efforts with countries and international organizations to unite and join hands to build an increasingly peaceful, happy and better world.
The Prime Minister hopes and believes that Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires, and Heads of International Organizations in Vietnam will continue to effectively promote their special bridging role, bringing the friendship and cooperation between countries and international organizations with Vietnam to become increasingly closer, deeper, more practical, and more effective.
The Prime Minister said that for Eastern culture in general and Vietnam in particular, 2024 has a special meaning because it is the year of the "dragon". The Vietnamese people have many myths and legends related to the dragon, the most prominent of which is the legend "Descendants of the Dragon and the Fairy". The year of the dragon is a symbol of a year full of energy, strength, faith, hope, prosperity and luck.
The Prime Minister sent his New Year greetings in the form of a Vietnamese folk couplet: " Happy New Year, may all your wishes come true/Happy Spring, may all your wishes come true ."
On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr. Saadi Salama - Ambassador of the State of Palestine congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements and milestones in 2023.
Vietnam's international role and position continue to be affirmed. The spirit of "Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community" is effectively promoted.
Vietnam has been continuing to expand and develop comprehensive strategic partnerships or strategic partnerships with many countries, while constantly strengthening relations with traditional friends, maintaining and developing relations with all major countries and other key partners.
Ambassador Saadi Salama believes that Vietnam will continue to contribute an important voice in promoting compliance with international law, maintaining world peace and stability, enhancing cooperation between countries, promoting multilateralism and making efforts to address common challenges for a livable planet for future generations.
