Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Malaysia is an important partner of Vietnam, especially in trade and investment; Malaysian enterprises are increasingly investing effectively in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of July 8, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who is visiting and working in Vietnam and co-chairing the 4th meeting of the Vietnam-Malaysia Joint Trade Committee in Hanoi.
At the reception, through Minister Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent greetings and regards to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim; congratulated and highly appreciated the achievements in Malaysia's socio-economic recovery and development in recent times.
Appreciating the two sides’ organization of the Joint Trade Committee Meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested continuing to maintain this important cooperation mechanism to concretize high-level agreements, supporting the promotion of bilateral cooperation in general and trade in particular between the two countries.
Currently, Malaysia is Vietnam's third largest trading partner in ASEAN and Vietnam's 10th largest trading partner in the world; Malaysia is the third largest investor in ASEAN in Vietnam with a total registered capital exceeding 13 billion USD. Prime Minister and Minister Zafrul Abdul Aziz were pleased with the rapid development of the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership, achieving many good and comprehensive results in recent times.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Malaysia is an important partner of Vietnam, especially in trade and investment; Malaysian enterprises are increasingly investing effectively in Vietnam; said that Vietnam always welcomes and encourages Malaysian enterprises and investors to do business and invest in Vietnam, commits to protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests, ensuring fair treatment, and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Malaysian investors.
The Prime Minister said that the room for economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries is huge, and the target of a trade turnover of 20 billion USD in the coming years is feasible; he suggested that both sides continue to promote the complementary strengths of the two economies, research and find solutions to create breakthroughs in economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries as well as participate in the global supply chain.
The Prime Minister proposed that Malaysia create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to better penetrate the Malaysian market, especially for processed agricultural products, seafood, and food; cooperate and support Vietnam in developing the Halal industry and promote Malaysian enterprises to invest in Vietnam in this field, as well as in the fields of digital transformation, green transformation, clean energy, and wind power export; promote cooperation in emerging fields such as innovation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, etc.
The Prime Minister suggested that the two sides exchange experiences, cooperate in building mechanisms and policies, improve governance capacity, transfer technology, and train high-quality human resources, especially in emerging fields; promote more effective cooperation between businesses of the two sides, promote people-to-people exchanges, and promote stronger tourism and cultural cooperation with open regulations.
Discussing regional and international issues, the Prime Minister said that in the current context, facing global and national issues, Vietnam and Malaysia need to continue to support each other in multilateral forums; together with other ASEAN member countries, maintain the central role and strengthen solidarity and unity in ASEAN's diversity, maintaining an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; peacefully resolving disputes on the basis of international law, especially the United Nations Charter and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982); stating that Vietnam supports Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 and asked Malaysia to support Vietnam's efforts to remove the IUU yellow card.
Minister Zafrul Abdul Aziz conveyed the greetings and regards of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; said that this was his second visit to Vietnam, and was pleased with the strong development of bilateral relations in recent times.
The Minister informed about the rich working program in Vietnam with the participation of many Malaysian enterprises and said that this year's bilateral trade turnover could reach 18 billion USD, earlier than planned (2025).
Agreeing with the opinions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Minister said that Malaysia is looking forward to and has high expectations for cooperation with Vietnam, wishing to promote cooperation between businesses, economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries to develop more strongly, especially in the fields and contents that the Prime Minister mentioned, especially the Halal industry which has great development potential, investment in the fields of digital transformation, green transformation, wind power development, innovation, artificial intelligence, etc.
The Minister affirmed that Malaysia always supports ASEAN's central role in regional issues and Malaysia hopes that Vietnam will continue to support Malaysia in its role as ASEAN Chair in 2025./.
