On the evening of July 27, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received US Secretary of State Blinken on the occasion of the Secretary's visit to Vietnam to express condolences to the Government, people of Vietnam and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the passing of the General Secretary.

On behalf of President Biden and the US Administration, Secretary Blinken expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam for this great loss. Secretary Blinken shared that President Biden often recalled the historic visit to the United States in 2015 by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, which was an important milestone in bilateral relations. The US Secretary of State emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was the leader in nurturing the relationship between the two countries, and bringing the Vietnam-US relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, a model of healing and cooperation for the benefit of the people.
On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked Secretary of State Blinken for visiting and greeting the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on behalf of President Biden and the US Administration. Through the US Secretary of State, the Prime Minister conveyed the sincere thanks of the Government of Vietnam as well as the Prime Minister himself to President Biden for the message of deep condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that thanks to the strategic vision and wise leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden, the Vietnam-US relationship has entered a new important stage of development.
Secretary Blinken affirmed that the United States attaches importance to and wishes to continue promoting and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam. The Foreign Minister expressed his delight that after nearly one year of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both sides actively implementing the Joint Statement and the Vietnam-US Action Plan for 2023, the Vietnam-US relationship has achieved many positive results, in line with the wishes and interests of both sides, contributing positively to peace, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.

Looking forward to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025, the Prime Minister and Secretary of State Blinken agreed that the two sides need to increase contacts and exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels, focusing on promoting economic - trade - investment cooperation, high technology, semiconductor cooperation, further promoting the potential for cooperation in the field of training high-quality human resources, considering this to continue to be the focus and driving force for bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister especially emphasized the need for both sides to further strengthen cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war. Sharing his personal experience of a recent working trip to Vietnam, meeting with Vietnamese veterans and their families on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), witnessing with his own eyes many families, war invalids and martyrs suffering from the wounds of war that have been left for future generations, the Prime Minister asked the United States to further accelerate the progress of clearing remaining bombs, mines and explosives, detoxifying dioxin at hotspots, and supporting people with disabilities affected by the consequences of war. The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam will continue to cooperate fully and effectively in the search for US soldiers missing in action (MIA).
Regarding international and regional issues of mutual concern, the Prime Minister welcomed the United States to strengthen comprehensive and responsible cooperation with the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions, continue to support ASEAN's consensus, central role, and the principled stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on the East Sea issue. Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States' support for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, expanding international integration, playing an increasingly important role in ASEAN and the region as well as in international cooperation to respond to global challenges./.
