Open direct flight route Poland-Vietnam
During the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the leaders of LOT Airlines, Mr. Michal Fijol, Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors of LOT, said that LOT is one of the oldest airlines in the world. As of August 2024, LOT owns a fleet of 80 aircraft and is the 18th largest airline in Europe, serving 105 domestic and international destinations across Europe, Asia and North America.
Congratulating Vietnam on its great achievements in economic development in general and the aviation industry in particular, LOT leaders affirmed the great development potential of the aviation industry in Vietnam, including business passenger transport, tourist transport and cargo transport.
In 2010, LOT opened a new route from Warsaw to Hanoi, which initially enjoyed great success. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Warsaw-Hanoi route has been temporarily suspended since 2020.
Currently, LOT is interested in restoring business relations with Vietnam, specifically re-operating the Warsaw-Hanoi route, expecting to continue developing aviation business activities in Vietnam, including passenger, tourism and cargo transportation, infrastructure construction, and airport operations. The airline is also operating charter flights between Warsaw and Phu Quoc and in 2024 alone, it brought 15,000 Polish tourists to Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed LOT’s effective business performance in recent times despite fluctuations in the world situation; highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and LOT in passenger transport and cargo transportation services.
Emphasizing that aviation plays a very important role in connecting, integrating, promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges, the Prime Minister said that the Vietnam-Poland relationship continues to develop well, Vietnam has many advantages to develop the aviation sector, these are good foundations to continue promoting economic-investment-trade cooperation activities between the business communities of the two countries, including aviation businesses.
Taking note of the LOT Group's proposals regarding the resumption of operations in the Vietnamese market, the Prime Minister stated that this would not encounter any problems. Vietnam is currently expanding airports such as Tan Son Nhat, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and the Prime Minister will assign Vietnamese agencies to immediately handle LOT's proposals according to regulations.
The Prime Minister suggested that LOT take the lead in reopening flights to Vietnam and continue to cooperate with Vietnam Airlines to operate flights to Vietnam, including charter flights, bringing tourists to famous tourist destinations in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Ha Long, Phu Quoc, etc., as well as other countries in the region following the model of “one route, many destinations.” LOT could be an extension of Vietnam Airlines in Central and Eastern Europe, while Vietnam Airlines would be an extension of LOT in Southeast Asia, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also asked LOT to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam Airlines and relevant agencies to exchange and answer questions about relevant information as well as seek opportunities to expand the market in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese Government is committed to always creating favorable conditions, in accordance with the provisions of law, for the group in particular and Polish investors in general to invest and do business effectively and sustainably, in accordance with the provisions of law in Vietnam./.
