(Chinhphu.vn) - On the occasion of his official visit to Korea, on the evening of June 30, in Seoul, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife met with officials and staff of the Embassy, Vietnamese representative agencies and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Korea.
Reporting to the Prime Minister, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho said that currently, the Vietnamese community in Korea has about 280,000 people. They continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, mutual love, mutual assistance, and growing development, preserving national identity, always looking towards their homeland, actively contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland and acting as a bridge to strengthen the friendly relations between Vietnam and Korea. According to Ambassador Vu Ho, many Vietnamese people have grown up, are good at production and business, have scientific works and have made positive contributions to the locality in all aspects, which have been recognized and highly appreciated by Korea. The Embassy and representative agencies of Vietnam in Korea have actively coordinated with Korean authorities to promote the concretization and implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries. At the meeting, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Korea said that they are always proud to be Vietnamese; have deep affection for their homeland and country through practical actions; hope that the Government will direct ministries and branches to create more favorable conditions for administrative procedures related to Vietnamese nationality and other personal documents; influence the Korean government in citizen protection and development of the Vietnamese community in Korea. They also asked Vietnam to have open policies, creating better conditions for overseas Vietnamese to turn to the Fatherland, especially activities for young people; have specific projects to promote and preserve Vietnamese culture in Korea, such as building a Vietnamese Village in Korea... Also at the meeting, people proposed a number of initiatives to develop science and technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, including proposals related to the development of new industries, such as semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence; connecting domestic scientists with overseas Vietnamese; have a mechanism to mobilize resources and intelligence of Vietnamese people abroad to solve problems at home... After listening to opinions, leaders of relevant ministries and branches shared and answered opinions of Vietnamese people in Korea regarding nationality, identification papers, policies to attract Vietnamese scientists abroad, etc. Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son congratulated overseas Vietnamese in Korea for three reasons: Deep and comprehensive integration, success in all fields; maintaining Vietnamese identity, culture, language, always remembering the homeland and country; taking advantage of the country's current position, international prestige and potential and will continue to increase in the coming time to consolidate its position in Korean society.
Symbol in bilateral relations
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the enthusiastic and responsible comments towards the country and the relationship between the two countries; and conveyed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's regards, wishes for good health and success to the increasingly growing community of nearly 300,000 Vietnamese people in Korea. The Prime Minister assessed that the Vietnam-Korea relationship has never been as good as it is now in all aspects of politics, diplomacy, economy, national defense and security, culture, sports, etc. That comprehensive relationship creates favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work, study and research in Korea. On the other hand, the community of about 200,000 Koreans in Vietnam is the fastest growing community in nearly 40 years, formed very quickly and integrated very well. "The two communities are symbols in the relationship between the two countries," said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister affirmed that our Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community. This viewpoint has been concretized and legalized in many laws, most recently the laws on land, real estate, credit institutions, etc. to facilitate overseas Vietnamese to return home and contribute to the country. The Prime Minister affirmed that the community of about 6 million overseas Vietnamese has made very important contributions to the cause of national construction and defense, receiving respect and admiration from the host country; at the same time, always maintaining love for the homeland and country, preserving Vietnamese identity and culture. On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister acknowledged that the overseas Vietnamese community in Korea has made great and high-quality contributions to the Fatherland and to bilateral relations, through stability and development in the host country, with the aspiration to rise up and become rich, affirming that Vietnamese people, wherever they are, are not inferior to any community. Along with that, the Vietnamese community in Korea always loves and protects, the predecessors help the successors. Sharing with the people about the country's situation, the Prime Minister emphasized that our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as today; the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved. In the context of slowing global economic growth, in the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam's GDP increased by 6.42%, with nearly 7% in the second quarter alone. WEF assessed Vietnam as a bright star in terms of growth. Public debt, government debt, foreign debt and budget deficit are below the allowable threshold; inflation is under control. The macro economy is stable, the Vietnamese currency is among the least depreciated in the region, and major balances of the economy are guaranteed. The Prime Minister praised and hoped that the Embassy would always be a warm home for overseas Vietnamese, and that embassy staff would always put themselves in the position of overseas Vietnamese to solve problems and respond to requests with close affection, especially when overseas Vietnamese encounter difficulties and problems, they must consider them as family members. The Prime Minister noted that there should be a hotline to promptly support overseas Vietnamese when problems arise and for them to always feel secure. Regarding the issues that people mentioned related to nationality, identity, attracting and calling on overseas Vietnamese to participate in scientific research, contributing to the country, etc., the Prime Minister said that the authorities will absorb, study and amend and propose amendments to relevant regulations, have appropriate solutions, in the spirit of "whatever is beneficial to the people and the country, we will do our best", as President Ho Chi Minh instructed. In the discussion with leaders and ministries of Korea, the Prime Minister and members of the Vietnamese delegation will ask the Korean side to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work.
