The United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, held every September in New York, USA, is the most important international event in international political life with the participation of many senior leaders of member countries.
This year, the UN General Assembly High-Level Week recorded a record number of nine conferences with the participation of more than 150 heads of state and government. It is also the focus of multilateral diplomacy at the highest level and frequency of activities.

In an interview with The World and Vietnam newspaper, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh leading the Vietnamese delegation to attend the High-Level Week of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, speaking before the entire General Assembly and a number of important high-level multilateral conferences, along with many activities, exchanges and contacts, is of special significance.
Through his participation in the 78th Session of the High-Level General Debate and other related activities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will convey Vietnam's strong message to the international community about a peace-loving Vietnam, a responsible member, and a more active, proactive and effective participant in the common work of the United Nations in addressing global challenges.
The participation of the Vietnamese high-level delegation at major United Nations events this year demonstrates at the highest level the commitment of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to actively contribute to the common efforts of the international community to maintain international peace and security and sustainable development.
At the same time, Vietnam continues to affirm its role as a responsible member, proactively participating, making specific and substantial contributions to the common work and major priorities of the United Nations and the international community; sharing Vietnam's lessons, ideas and solutions, contributing to promoting international cooperation and solidarity and strengthening multilateralism to effectively respond to global challenges and increasingly fierce emerging non-traditional security issues.

Regarding the Vietnamese Prime Minister's participation in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit within the framework of the High-Level Week, Ms. Rana Flowers, Acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, in an interview with The World and Vietnam Newspaper, expressed her belief that the commitments that Vietnam presented at the Summit are a testament to human development, as well as Vietnam's strong commitment and determination to the 2030 Agenda with 17 SDGs - keeping the promise of leaving no one behind.
Acting Coordinator Rana Flowers said that the reality is that Vietnam is rapidly becoming a powerhouse in solar panel production, reducing its dependence on coal, efforts to protect biodiversity, ensure clean water sources, transform the education system, address gender imbalance, improve child nutrition, etc.
These are prime examples of development indicators that deserve attention today, not just for their global assessment over the next seven years – but because the countries that lead in these areas will lead the world in economic growth, protection of the planet and prosperity for their people.
Vietnam officially joined the United Nations in September 1977, just two years after the war ended in 1975. Over the past 45 years, Vietnam has transformed from a country that only received UN support, to a country with increasing capacity, and a strong contributor to regional and global agendas. |
Vietnam-US relations over the 28 years of establishing diplomatic relations and 10 years of implementing the Comprehensive Partnership have brought about positive results, with bilateral cooperation developing deeply, substantially and comprehensively in all fields and at all levels, contributing to security, peace, cooperation and common development.
In particular, the two countries have just marked an important historical milestone when they officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development, during the State visit to Vietnam by US President J. Biden, at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The new stature of Vietnam-US relations opens a new stage of development, with a framework and space for sustainable, stable and long-term cooperation, in line with the wishes and interests of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development of the region and the world.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to the United States continues to affirm that Vietnam and the United States attach importance to bilateral relations and promote the concretization of agreements and commitments the two countries have just reached, in the spirit of the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
Bringing Vietnam and Brazil closer together

Vietnam-Brazil relations have developed well in recent years, especially since the two countries established a comprehensive partnership framework during General Secretary Nong Duc Manh's official visit to Brazil (May 2007). The two countries regularly exchange delegations at all levels.
Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America and second in the Americas, after the United States. In 2022, two-way trade turnover reached a record of 6.78 billion USD; trade exchange in the first 6 months of 2023 reached approximately 3.3 billion USD.
Brazil currently has 6 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 3.83 million USD, mainly in the fields of manufacturing and processing industry, wholesale and retail, and scientific and technological activities. At the same time, the two sides have signed many cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two countries share views on United Nations reform and many other international issues, and support each other at multilateral forums.
Recently, President Lula da Silva and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met within the framework of the expanded G7 Summit held in Hiroshima (Japan) last May.
Speaking to the press ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Brazil, Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Farani shared: "We are very happy and excited to wait for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit in the last week of this month. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit will bring the two countries closer together and open up opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in many fields."
Assessing that Vietnam and Brazil have many prospects for cooperation in trade, tourism, agriculture, energy and education, Ambassador Marco Farani hopes that the two countries will have more connections and political dialogue. With geographical locations in the Southern Hemisphere, Vietnam and Brazil share the same aspirations, are both leading countries and have special importance in the region. Therefore, it is important that the leaders of the two countries meet and start a dialogue on these issues.
Brazil has just assumed the rotating presidency of the Southern Common Market - Mercosur. In this role, Brazil will strive to strengthen intra-bloc dialogue, aiming to expand free trade between regional markets. A free trade agreement between Mercosur and Vietnam is a goal for both sides. President Lula has stated that he will work with other Mercosur leaders to accelerate the agreement with Vietnam.
