According to the special correspondent of VNA, on October 10, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits in Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The two Prime Ministers were pleased to see the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership growing strongly in many areas; affirmed their determination to continue to elevate and deepen cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefit, in line with the aspirations of the people of the two countries, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Canada; welcomes Canada to strengthen its engagement with the region, both within the bilateral framework and through ASEAN mechanisms. The Prime Minister suggested that both sides more effectively exploit opportunities for economic, trade and investment cooperation; promote defense cooperation, including Canada's support for Vietnam to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations; enhance cooperation in labor training, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, gender equality, poverty reduction, protection of women and children's rights, response to climate change, and food security.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his agreement with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s proposals; suggested that the two sides increase high-level and all-level contacts, and effectively exploit the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to effectively implement agreements on defense cooperation, including the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation for the 2024-2026 period; and continue to cooperate effectively in other important areas such as labor, society, education, and people-to-people exchange. The two leaders agreed to continue to coordinate closely within the framework of regional and global multilateral forums, especially ASEAN, the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Francophone Community.
