The 5th City Economic Forum (HEF) with the theme "Industrial transformation, new driving force for sustainable development of Ho Chi Minh City" opened its plenary session this morning, September 25.
Ho Chi Minh City hopes that through this year's Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum, it can identify priorities and focuses in industrial transformation, thereby focusing resources, ensuring consistency in policy mechanisms and implementation.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that the orientation of Ho Chi Minh City is to build a smart, modern, and compassionate city to improve the quality of life for the people.
Resolution 31 of the Politburo assigned Ho Chi Minh City the task of becoming a modern industrial city by 2030 and a city with a modern industrial development by 2045, on par with major cities in the region.

With a vision and many large, specific targets, to achieve the set tasks, the city needs sustainable solutions and sustainable development. Ho Chi Minh City chooses green transformation as the driving force, digital transformation as a breakthrough and development cooperation as an important, inevitable task.
"In the immediate future, we must focus on overcoming the large gap. That is improving the socio-economic infrastructure system, especially transport infrastructure, environmental technology, as well as improving the quality of human resources, institutional reform, and administrative procedures.
The city also needs to have outstanding and breakthrough policy mechanisms in mobilizing resources for development investment.

Mr. Nen said that through the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum, the city leaders have listened to and received many valuable opinions, experiences and suggestions from domestic and international delegates. And the city has also heard commitments to action.
The city government absorbs and incorporates each medium and short-term development stage, giving effective directions to the economy.
"In addition to diplomatic agencies, consulates, international organizations, and businesses, there are also friends who have been with Ho Chi Minh City since the difficult days. The city will never forget those who helped it overcome the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Mr. Nguyen Van Nen.

According to Dr. Pham Binh An - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies, the city hopes that HEF 2024 will be a place to meet, exchange and grasp new development trends.
This year's forum recorded 40 local, ministerial and international delegations and experts confirmed to attend HEF 2024 from 16 countries, including: Laos, Cambodia, China, Cuba, USA, Japan, Korea, Russia, India, Germany, Australia, Italy, Portugal, Belarus, Hungary, Uruguay.
