On the morning of November 27, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the 7th Vietnam-US Business Summit with the theme "Policies and approaches to ensure mutually beneficial trade relations".

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that trade is the largest and most successful area of economic cooperation in the relationship between the two countries.

Trade cooperation goes hand in hand with promoting economic and investment relations; investment by US businesses in Vietnam is still modest compared to its potential, but it is also a great effort that brings benefits to the people of both countries.

Thanking US businesses for playing an important role as a bridge, promoting Vietnam-US relations to new heights, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recalled that nearly 80 years ago, on February 16, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to President Harry Truman expressing his desire for comprehensive cooperation with the United States.

The Prime Minister spent a lot of time sharing with delegates about the development path, fundamental factors, pillars, policies, and key tasks of Vietnam in foreign affairs and integration, economic development, maintaining national defense and security, developing culture, ensuring social security, building the Party and the political system, and bringing the country into a new era, an era of wealth and prosperity.

In particular, Vietnam's consistent viewpoint of "considering people as the center, the subject, and at the same time the goal, the driving force, and the resource for development; not sacrificing progress, fairness, social security, and the environment to pursue mere economic growth" is also consistent with the current world trend.

The Prime Minister said that after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, from a country under siege and embargo, Vietnam now has diplomatic relations with nearly 200 countries, including Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Partnership with 32 countries; has signed 17 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with more than 60 of the world's leading economies.

Emphasizing that Vietnam is one of the countries that has suffered the most pain and loss after World War II, experienced many wars, been besieged and embargoed for a long time, the head of the Government was pleased to see that, after nearly 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1995-2024), establishing a Comprehensive Partnership and then a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with the spirit of "putting the past behind, overcoming differences, promoting similarities, looking towards the future", with great efforts from both sides, through many ups and downs and breakthroughs, the Vietnam-US relationship has been constantly consolidated and developed to become better and better as it is today.

Thanking the United States for supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam, the two sides have actively built legal frameworks to promote trade and investment relations, creating conditions for businesses to cooperate. The Prime Minister assessed that the two countries have come a long way and in the bilateral relationship, there are important contributions from businesses of the two countries, including US businesses.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to promote three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure and human resources; create strong institutional breakthroughs, build a streamlined, strong, efficient, effective and efficient apparatus.

At the same time, continuously improve the investment and business environment with the spirit of "open institutions, smooth infrastructure, smart governance" to reduce time, compliance costs, and input costs for businesses and investors, while increasing labor productivity, creating new development space, and enhancing the competitiveness of goods, businesses, and the economy.

Vietnam prioritizes growth, focusing on renewing traditional growth drivers (investment, export, consumption) and promoting new drivers such as digital economy, green economy, circular economy, sharing economy, and knowledge economy.

Promote science and technology, innovation, and develop emerging industries and fields such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things with the spirit of "innovation to fly high, creativity to reach far, integration to develop".

Vietnam is also focusing on implementing major projects that are "transforming the state, turning the situation around" such as nuclear power plants, the North-South high-speed railway, airports, large seaports, expressway systems, developing all five types of transportation, international transit centers, etc.; ensuring adequate electricity supply; building national data centers; exploiting new development spaces such as outer space, underground space, and marine space, etc.

In this context, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that US businesses continue to strengthen cooperation and investment in Vietnam in the above-mentioned priority areas.

The Prime Minister asked the US to urgently consider recognizing Vietnam as a market economy and remove restrictions related to high-tech exports to Vietnam, for the common interests of both countries and peoples, including overcoming the consequences of war, bombs and mines, and Agent Orange in Vietnam.

"The world situation continues to evolve rapidly, complexly, and unpredictably, with many global issues that no single country can solve. No country is safe if other countries still have war, conflict, and loss. Along with that are many non-traditional security issues such as climate change, population aging, resource depletion, etc.

The above issues have profound and comprehensive impacts and influences on all aspects of economic and social life, every country, and every person in the world.

Therefore, it is necessary to have a national, comprehensive, global mindset, methodology, and approach that promotes multilateralism and calls for international solidarity," the head of the Government acknowledged.

The Prime Minister hopes that the two countries will continue this approach and that the business communities of the two countries will actively cooperate and participate in solving these issues.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the viewpoint that resources start from thinking, vision, motivation comes from innovation and creativity, strength comes from people and businesses; "harmonized benefits, shared risks" between the State, businesses and people, "listening and understanding together, sharing vision and action together, doing together, winning together, enjoying together, developing together, sharing joy, happiness and pride".
