On the morning of January 6, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his wife arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam; and co-chairing the 46th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee from January 6 to 7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Committee; leaders of ministries, branches and central agencies of Vietnam welcomed Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his wife at Noi Bai International Airport.
This is the first official visit to Vietnam by Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone in his new position. During the visit, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will attend the official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The two Prime Ministers will also co-chair the 46th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.
Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will have meetings with Vietnamese leaders and a number of other activities in Hanoi.
On this occasion, Mr. Vu Trong Kim, National Assembly delegate, former President of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association, said that the good traditional relationship, the loyal and pure attachment between the people of Vietnam and Laos, founded by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong, and painstakingly cultivated under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in the historical process, has become a priceless asset of the two nations and a common development law of the two countries on the path to developing a prosperous country and a prosperous and happy people. The visit of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone is a bright highlight, deepening the special solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, which has been strongly promoted in the new period.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the cumulative trade turnover between Vietnam and Laos reached 1.5 billion USD by the end of November 2023. Of which, Vietnam's exports to Laos reached 485 million USD, down 12.8% over the same period in 2022; Vietnam's imports from Laos reached 977 million USD, up 4.2% over the same period in 2022.
Vietnam's main export items to Laos include: petroleum of all kinds; iron and steel products; iron and steel of all kinds; means of transport and spare parts; machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts; fertilizers of all kinds; fruits and vegetables. The Asia-Africa Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) stated that Vietnam's exports to Laos in the coming time may continue to grow based on the positive trade relationship between the two countries.
On the morning of January 6, the official welcoming ceremony was solemnly held at the Presidential Palace, where Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Lao Prime Minister inspected the Guard of Honor of the Vietnam People's Army. Before the official welcoming ceremony, the Lao Prime Minister laid flowers at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs; laid flowers and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was born on January 26, 1966; Lao nationality; professional qualification: Master of Business Administration. Currently, he is a member of the Politburo of the Central Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Prime Minister of the Lao Government.
