TPO - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he had assigned "Mr. Vuong" (i.e. billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup Corporation) to research and build a metro system from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio district and Mr. Vuong agreed.

The information was shared by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Conference announcing the Prime Minister's decision approving the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, held on the afternoon of January 4 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Prime Minister, Ho Chi Minh City must exploit these three spaces well to contribute to promoting and developing its unique potential, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages, while also finding solutions to overcome bottlenecks, conflicts, and challenges of a densely populated city with limited land.

“The city must expand outer space, sea space, and underground space. Specifically, we have recently built an urban railway (metro) that is both underground and above ground, and when it was inaugurated, people were very excited,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Further information on this matter, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that he had assigned “Mr. Vuong” (billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup Corporation) to research and build a metro system from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio district and Mr. Vuong agreed. The Prime Minister hoped that Ho Chi Minh City would continue to assign this task to Mr. Vuong.

“He is very passionate about this. We have to assign many tasks to large enterprises. I have also assigned some tasks. You comrades are forming your thinking,” the Prime Minister shared.

On December 22, 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) completed and officially put into operation metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien). This is the first metro line put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City after being approved in 2007 and started construction in 2012. Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line is 19.7km long with a total investment of VND 43,700 billion.

According to the Prime Minister's decision on approving the planning of Ho Chi Minh City: Planning, orientations, and development priorities of Ho Chi Minh City, by 2050, Ho Chi Minh City will become an attractive and sustainable global city; an economic, financial, and service center of Asia; with distinctive economic and cultural development; people with high quality of life; the nucleus of the Ho Chi Minh City region and the Southeast region; the growth pole of the whole country.
