Prime Minister: Efforts to 'listen thoroughly, see clearly, and understand completely' the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was moved by the heartfelt sharing and responsibility towards the homeland. He emphasized that the country always treasures and strives to listen thoroughly and clearly to the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese.

On the morning of August 22, after the opening ceremony of the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese and the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh listened to the sharing of delegates in the session "Overseas intellectuals and experts give advice on issues of green and sustainable development of the country".

"The strength of our people is great"

In his concluding remarks and instructions, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy at the large presence of hundreds of overseas Vietnamese from more than 40 countries and territories.

He shared that he was even happier to see many young, dynamic, successful faces, some familiar, some new, attending the event.

According to the Prime Minister, this demonstrates the nation’s precious tradition: When the bamboo is old, the bamboo shoots will grow again. The majority of people always carry in their hearts a passionate love for their homeland and country and a desire to contribute to the country’s development.

Emphasizing the significance of the event as it was held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Politburo's Resolution 36 on overseas Vietnamese affairs, the Prime Minister said that this was an opportunity to meet and discuss important and practical issues regarding the country's development in the coming years.

At the same time, this is also an opportunity to express "national love and compatriotism", as President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed: "The Fatherland and the Government always miss our compatriots, like parents miss their absent children. That is the human heart and the natural order, that is the love of a family".

Assessing the reports of the ministries and the opinions of the delegates, the Prime Minister said he basically agreed, and shared some more thoughts on the world and regional situation; Vietnam's development orientations and the role of Vietnamese people abroad.

Pointing out that the world is changing rapidly, profoundly, complicatedly, and unpredictably with difficulties and challenges intertwined with favorable opportunities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the more difficulties and challenges Vietnamese people encounter, the more united and unified they are to overcome them together.

"That is the value and identity of the Vietnamese people. The world changes, but the identity and values of the Vietnamese people and nation do not change. If there is change, it will only be for the better," the head of the Government emphasized.

Affirming that the Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, the Prime Minister emotionally recalled the sentiments of compatriots at home and abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic.

" The strength of our people is immense. Even when the place where we live is struggling to fight the epidemic, people abroad are willing to contribute whatever they can to the country," he cited.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged, highly appreciated and commended the important contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community to the homeland, the country, and the cause of national construction and protection over the past time.

As soon as he finished speaking, hundreds of people applauded with pride.

The Head of Government also affirmed that the country cherishes the sentiments, understands when listening to the aspirations and highly appreciates the valuable contributions of people no matter where they are in the country.

The success of our compatriots is also the success of the country. The country has high expectations for the overseas Vietnamese community in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, because this is a great source of strength for the nation.

" We always strive to 'listen thoroughly, see clearly, and understand completely' the thoughts, aspirations, and contributions of the Vietnamese community abroad," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Looking forward to more innovative and creative ideas from overseas Vietnamese.

The Head of Government affirmed that the responsibility to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Vietnamese community abroad is "the responsibility of the Party, the State, ministries, localities, the entire political system, and the entire people under the leadership of the Party".

The first key goal is to support overseas Vietnamese to stabilize their lives, do business with peace of mind, integrate well and thrive in the host society.

At the same time, support compatriots to build a strong and cohesive community, care for, support, and protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of the community.

The Prime Minister also requested to find new motivations to connect the community with each other and between the community and the homeland and the country. At the same time, constantly innovate methods to support and mobilize the overseas Vietnamese community to contribute to building the country.

For all levels, sectors and localities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested efforts to innovate development thinking, take drastic actions, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, as well as have favorable mechanisms and policies for our people and businesses abroad to invest and do business, and support people in the country.

"I request ministries, branches and localities to absorb, listen to and respond to valuable contributions from our compatriots.

It should be noted that along with material contributions, contributions in terms of intelligence, ideas, initiatives, and scientific and technological knowledge of our compatriots are valuable resources for national development.

Finally, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his hope that overseas Vietnamese will continue to propose innovative and creative ideas and provide specific solutions to contribute to the country's development.

He called on overseas Vietnamese to continue to be "ambassadors of Vietnam, to glorify the Vietnamese people, the descendants of the Dragon and Fairy, to promote and spread Vietnamese culture and Vietnamese values".

"Especially in science, technology and innovation, I am pleased to know that Vietnamese intellectuals and experts are a very strong human resource at schools, research institutes, and multinational corporations in many countries.

"I request that you, my brothers, sisters, and friends, contribute ideas, especially on science and technology development, new fields such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence; at the same time, propose specific projects, replicate good practices, effective models and directly participate in implementation," the Prime Minister shared.
