The head of the Japanese government emphasized that over the past year, the indexes of wages, basic construction investment, and stock prices all increased to the highest level since the economic bubble period. This will be the premise for Japan to completely escape the deflationary mentality and cost-cutting trend that is currently covering the economy.
Mr. Kishida Fumio said that with the priority of protecting people's livelihoods in the current context of rising prices, he will continue to call on the business community to make efforts to increase wages higher than last year's increase, while strengthening the tax system to promote wage increases in a way that is easily accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises.
This requires the decisive participation of both the public and private sectors, mobilizing all policies towards a new, energetic economic phase in which people, goods and money flows steadily.
In terms of diplomacy and security , Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said that the international and regional situation in 2024 will develop unpredictably, including the situation in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, 2024 is also the year of important elections in Asia, Europe and many other countries, including the US presidential election. Japan will make the most of its diplomatic capabilities to overcome difficulties and challenges, ensure the safety of its people, and firmly protect its territory, airspace and seas.
On domestic issues , Mr. Kishida Fumio emphasized the importance of political stability for policy implementation and he will take the lead in efforts to restore the trust of the Japanese people, especially the determination to resolve the political fund scandal that occurred at the end of 2023.
Finally, he called for the understanding and cooperation of all Japanese people, together towards a new era in which the people of this country can believe that “tomorrow will always be better than today”.
Mr. Kishida Fumio is the 100th Prime Minister of Japan and a former foreign minister. He has always emphasized the importance of realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
