On the afternoon of October 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly deputies of Can Tho City met with more than 200 voters who are officials, members of the Farmers' Association and owners of agricultural production and trading cooperatives in Can Tho City to inform them about the expected content and agenda of the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly. Also attending were comrade Nguyen Van Hieu, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee; leaders of departments, branches and sectors of Can Tho City.
At the meeting, representatives of the National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City informed about the expected content and program of the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly and the results of implementing policies and laws related to investment activities, application of scientific and technological advances to serve production, processing and consumption of agricultural products in Can Tho City in the past time. Voters expressed their trust and excitement with the content and program of the upcoming 8th session of the National Assembly. They proposed that the National Assembly, the Government and the City pay attention to investing in and implementing faster the Can Tho City Climate Change Adaptation Project; have solutions to support people in areas at high risk of landslides to get to safety; pay attention to supporting cooperatives and farmers with machinery, equipment, technology, irrigation infrastructure, intra-field traffic, logistics centers in specialized areas, etc.
Some opinions suggested policies to support farmers affected by the project of building industrial parks to change their careers, create jobs, and support vocational training; suggested the National Assembly and the Government increase the level of support, so that farmers and freelance workers have more opportunities to participate in voluntary social insurance. Some opinions said that the progress of building the Center for linking, producing, processing and consuming agricultural products in the Mekong Delta in Can Tho City is slow, and more effective solutions are needed...
Receiving and responding to voters' recommendations, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Tran Viet Truong said: In the past time, with many different sources of capital, Can Tho City has invested in building embankments to protect river banks, implementing emergency projects to overcome subsidence and landslides in key areas to protect residents, and in the past 9 months alone, capital from the city budget has been allocated for 6 landslide sites.
Can Tho City People's Committee has issued a Plan to implement the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" in the city, which will provide support in many aspects, especially supporting farmers in establishing growing area codes, consolidating cooperatives, investing in completing agricultural production infrastructure, and mechanization. Can Tho City has also issued many resolutions and projects on improving human resources and vocational training; directed the organization of surveys on workers' needs, synthesized recruitment needs of industrial parks, and opened many vocational training classes according to business orders...
Regarding the slow construction of the Center for linking, producing, processing and consuming agricultural products in the Mekong Delta region in Can Tho City, the Chairman of the City People's Committee said that this is a new pilot model, which must be consistent with the Can Tho City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, so the construction and soliciting comments from ministries and branches to complete the Project and draft Decision of the Prime Minister takes a lot of time.
Speaking at the meeting with voters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that voters' opinions were of high quality and were receiving attention from society. The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party and State have issued many policies to develop agriculture and export agricultural products in the Mekong Delta region; and have focused on investing a lot of resources to build and develop infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region, especially transport infrastructure. According to the Prime Minister, the Mekong Delta region currently has issues that need to be addressed such as subsidence, landslides, flooding, and drought. In 2023, the Government spent more than 1,000 billion VND to overcome landslides in the region.
The Prime Minister requested the State Bank of Vietnam to support credit policies for the development of the Mekong Delta region. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urgently completed the Project to implement the Center for Linking, Producing, Processing and Consuming Agricultural Products in the Mekong Delta region in Can Tho City. The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Vietnam Social Security studied and proposed the Government to consider policies to support social insurance for the poor, the disadvantaged, and unpaid farmers.
The Prime Minister also noted that in the coming time, Can Tho City needs to implement effective solutions to promote strong socio-economic growth in the last months of the year, because in the past 9 months, the city's economic growth was lower than the national average. The city must make more efforts in disbursing public investment capital; implementing new growth drivers such as digital transformation, green transformation, and circular economic development. Continue to implement flood prevention projects; pay attention to mobilizing all resources to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the poor and disadvantaged. The city's Party committees at all levels need to prepare well the conditions to successfully organize Party congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term...
