Israeli Prime Minister Wants to Disarm the Entire Gaza Strip
According to a document presented to members of Israel's security cabinet on February 22 and reported by Reuters today, February 23, Tel Aviv wants to continue to maintain security control over the entire western part of Jordan, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. These are two areas where Palestinians want to establish a state.
Regarding long-term goals, Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected "unilateral recognition" of a Palestinian state. The leader stressed that a settlement with the Palestinians could only be achieved through bilateral negotiations.
Regarding medium-term goals, Mr. Netanyahu wants to put into practice the demilitarization and deradicalization of the above-mentioned areas.
According to Reuters, the Israeli Prime Minister did not mention when the implementation of the medium-term goals would begin, nor how long it would take. However, he set a condition that the Gaza Strip must be completely disarmed before moving on to the recovery phase of this area.
Netanyahu wants Israel to have a presence on the Gaza-Egypt border in southern Gaza, and has proposed cooperation with Egypt and the United States in the area to prevent smuggling, including at the Rafah crossing.
In order to replace the ruling Hamas government while maintaining security and order in Gaza, the Israeli Prime Minister proposed to choose local representatives without any connection to terrorist organizations or forces.
He also called for the disbandment of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its replacement by other international aid organizations.
Hamas and other countries have not commented on the Israeli Prime Minister's post-war plans.
