After the meeting between the current cabinet and the new cabinet at the headquarters of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) in Phnom Penh on the evening of August 10, in a message sent via the messaging app Telegram, Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the CPP, posted a photo of Cambodia's upcoming cabinet.

According to the draft list of cabinet members, the new Royal Government of Cambodia (2023-2028) will include 1 prime minister, 10 deputy prime ministers, 11 senior ministers and 30 ministers.

On August 7, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni approved a royal decree appointing Dr. Hun Manet, 45 years old, as Prime Minister of Cambodia for a new term.

According to the plan, the 7th National Assembly of Cambodia will convene its first session and conduct its first meeting on August 21 and 22. If approved by the Cambodian National Assembly, Mr. Hun Manet is expected to officially take the oath of office as Prime Minister of Cambodia on August 22.

According to the results announced by the National Election Committee of Cambodia, in the election of the 7th National Assembly of Cambodia held on July 23, there were 125 candidates elected as MPs. Of these, 120 MPs were candidates of the CPP and 5 MPs were candidates of the Royalist Party FUNCINPEC.

New Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet was born on October 20, 1977, in Koh Thmor village, Memot district, Kampong Cham province (now Tbong Khmum province). He is the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany Hun Sen.

Hun Manet enlisted in the army in 1995. That same year, he entered the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, one of the most prestigious military training institutions of the US military. Four years later, he became the first Cambodian to graduate from the academy. He also earned a master's degree in economics from New York University in 2002, followed by a doctorate from the University of Bristol in England in 2008.

After training abroad, Hun Manet joined and led the National Counter-Terrorism Task Force of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense with the rank of Colonel in 2008. Since then, with his outstanding abilities, he has made rapid progress, holding many high-ranking positions in the Royal Cambodian Army. From 2018 until before the 2023 election, he was Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army with the rank of 4-star General. He is a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party and Head of the Central Committee of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Cambodian People's Party.
