Prime Minister meets with Lao General Secretary and President in Vientiane

(Dan Tri) - General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed that in the coming time, the two sides need to focus on effectively implementing cooperation agreements and treaties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on the afternoon of October 8 in Vientiane, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits. Congratulating Laos on its role as ASEAN Chair 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that with careful and professional preparation, Laos will successfully organize the 45th ASEAN Summit and AIPA, thereby making practical contributions to the stable, sustainable development and growth of the region, while enhancing Laos' role and position in the international arena.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach importance to and give the highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, considering it a priceless asset, an objective requirement, a top priority, the number one choice and a vital factor for the revolutionary cause of the two countries. He affirmed that he would direct Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities to closely coordinate with Lao ministries, branches and localities to effectively implement high-level agreements between the two countries, including the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement during the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith from September 10 to 13. General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for leading a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN Summit in Laos. He expressed his gratitude to General Secretary and President To Lam and senior leaders of Vietnam for their warm and fraternal welcome of the Lao high-ranking delegation during their recent state visit. The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated Vietnam's active support for Laos during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, and affirmed that Vietnam's important contribution to Laos' success as ASEAN Chair was made by Vietnam. General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed that in the coming time, the two sides should focus on effectively implementing the cooperation agreements and treaties between the two countries, especially the results of the recent meeting between the two Politburoes of Vietnam and Laos in Hanoi.

Accordingly, the two sides will further strengthen the connection between the two economies of Vietnam - Laos and between the three economies of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia; continue to regularly exchange experiences, information, closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at ASEAN, the United Nations and sub-regional mechanisms. In the context of complicated developments in the world and the region, the two sides affirmed to continue to foster the Vietnam - Laos relationship "forever green, forever sustainable", bringing economic cooperation to increasingly develop substantially, effectively, commensurate with the political relationship, in order to better meet the practical interests of each country and in line with development needs in the new period. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Laos to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits, at the invitation of his counterpart Sonexay Siphandone (ASEAN Chair 2024). With more than 20 activities, the Conference is an opportunity for leaders of countries to discuss and make strategic decisions on important issues facing ASEAN in particular and the region in general. This is also the most important summit of ASEAN in the year, attended by leaders of ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste and 10 ASEAN partners, along with many invited guests who are representatives of international and regional organizations.
