At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-Netherlands Comprehensive Partnership in recent times, especially cooperation in climate change response and sustainable agriculture. In the economic and trade field, the Netherlands is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest investor of the European Community (EU) in Vietnam. In the context of global trade facing many challenges, trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 will reach 13.77 billion USD, an increase of 26% compared to 2023.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the special affection that the leaders and people of the Netherlands have for Vietnam, especially the affection of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima; and expressed his wish to soon welcome the King and Queen of the Netherlands to visit Vietnam in the near future.
On the basis of increasingly consolidated political trust and the friendship and multifaceted cooperation that have been nurtured over the past 50 years, the Prime Minister proposed to promote political and diplomatic relations to a new, deeper and more practical level, the two countries should increase the exchange of high-level delegations; actively concretize the two Sectoral Strategic Partnership frameworks on climate change response and sustainable agriculture through the implementation of specific and practical cooperation programs and projects, especially in the Mekong Delta and coastal areas; continue to effectively implement existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and consider expanding cooperation to areas where the Netherlands has strengths and Vietnam has needs, including high technology, semiconductor chip design and manufacturing and other science and technology fields.
The Prime Minister also asked the Netherlands to soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and urge the EU to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood to further facilitate bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and said that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries have developed well in all areas and the two countries need to make efforts to promote bilateral relations to develop more strongly because there is still a lot of potential and room.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof said that the King and Queen of the Netherlands hope to visit Vietnam again soon; affirmed that the Netherlands is interested in and will consider investing in the semiconductor chip sector in Vietnam. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands congratulated Vietnam on hosting the UNCTAD Ministerial Conference in late 2025.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his gratitude and hope that the Dutch Government and the Prime Minister himself will continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands to successfully integrate and contribute to the socio-economic development of the host country.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides strengthen coordination and support each other at international and regional organizations.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited Prime Minister Dick Schoof to soon visit Vietnam, attend the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit hosted by Vietnam next April and review high-level agreements between the two sides./.
