Also attending were Deputy Prime Ministers Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc; ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies; leaders of central ministries and branches; leaders of 12 leading economic groups and private enterprises of the country.

Private economy - An important driving force in national development strategy

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said this event demonstrated the special attention of Party and State leaders to the private economic sector - an important driving force of the Vietnamese economy.

According to the Prime Minister, the private economic sector currently contributes about 45% of GDP, 30% of state budget revenue and attracts 85% of the workforce. In particular, the corporate income tax contribution rate of this sector accounts for about 34%. Many private enterprises have developed strongly, accumulated sufficient capacity in capital, technology and management, and built brands to reach out to regional and world markets.

In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the business community, including private enterprises, has made important contributions to help Vietnam become one of the few countries that effectively control the pandemic. In addition, in the face of unpredictable fluctuations in the world situation, businesses continue to accompany the country to overcome difficulties, promote economic recovery, ensure major balances and control inflation.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the business community would continue to uphold the tradition of patriotism and solidarity, and develop the country together with the spirit of "working together, winning together, and developing together". He called on Vietnamese businesses to be pioneers in innovation, actively participating in implementing strategic breakthroughs, especially perfecting the socialist-oriented market economic institution.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, after nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam now has more than 930,000 active enterprises, of which 98% are small and medium enterprises. In addition, there are about 14,400 cooperatives and more than 5 million business households. Several large private corporations such as Vingroup, Thaco, Hoa Phat, SOVICO, and TH have expanded to regional and global markets, becoming important driving forces of the economy.

From a backward economy, Vietnam has risen to become one of the top 40 economies in the world, with a trade scale in the top 20 countries. The size of the economy has increased from 26.3 billion USD in the early years of renovation to more than 430 billion USD in 2023. Vietnam is internationally recognized as a bright spot in poverty reduction and improving people's lives.

However, in the face of major changes in the world, including the emergence of new industries and adjustments in the global trade and investment structure, Vietnam is facing many new challenges as well as opportunities. This context requires economic development towards green and sustainable growth, with the goal of achieving net zero by 2050.

At the same time, it is necessary to focus on attracting investment in pioneering industries such as semiconductors, AI, green hydrogen, promoting growth based on science, technology and innovation.

At the conference, the Government Standing Committee listened to the opinions of the business community on the situation of operations, difficulties and obstacles, and proposed solutions.

The goal is to work with large enterprises to pioneer in identifying and implementing national projects, aiming to turn Vietnam into a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045, according to the orientation of the 13th National Party Congress.
