Prime Minister: Propose the US side to postpone imposing tariffs on Vietnam for at least 45 days - Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television

On the evening of April 7, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting with ministries and branches to update the situation with new developments, and continue to discuss solutions after the United States announced reciprocal tariffs on goods from many countries, including Vietnam.

After listening to the reports and conclusions of the meeting from ministries, sectors and agencies, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that this was the third meeting to deal with this issue; welcomed the ministries and sectors to prepare reports and related content; and directed the completion of a complete dossier to serve the negotiation delegation with the United States.

Regarding the solution, the Prime Minister stated that he proposed that the US side postpone imposing tariffs on Vietnam for at least 45 days to negotiate, prepare and transition status; at the same time, approach and negotiate with the US side to reach a bilateral agreement, moving towards a sustainable trade balance, beneficial to both sides, harmonious benefits, shared risks, beneficial to consumers on both sides, without affecting Vietnam's international commitments.

Regarding taxes, follow the high-level agreement between General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump.

Regarding trade solutions, continue to purchase more US products that are strong and in demand in Vietnam, including products related to security and defense; promote early delivery of aircraft commercial contracts.

At the same time, review and continue to thoroughly and effectively resolve the concerns of the US side. Properly handle issues related to monetary policy in accordance with Vietnamese law and international practices to stabilize interest rates, exchange rates and balance, in accordance with the Vietnamese economy.

Regarding non-tariff issues, the Government Office is assigned to review issues of concern to the US side, and to assign ministries and branches to research and respond satisfactorily and in line with the actual situation.

Regarding the origin of goods, the Ministry of Industry and Trade strictly reviews and controls the origin of goods according to Vietnamese law and does not allow any unfortunate incidents to occur.

Regarding copyright and intellectual property issues, the Ministry of Science and Technology is assigned to review legal regulations and organize effective implementation to protect the legitimate rights and interests of entities and combat counterfeit, fake, and disguised goods.

Regarding business support, the Prime Minister directed to expand preferential credit packages for seafood and research preferential credit packages for other sectors and products; continue to extend debt and reduce lending interest rates for products that may be affected by US tax policies; defer and extend taxes and land rents for businesses in difficult times; review and refund value-added tax in the direction of reducing administrative procedures and hassles; research and propose to competent authorities on tax reduction, first of all value-added tax.

Continue diplomatic measures through various channels to influence US agencies to have solutions suitable to Vietnam's conditions and circumstances and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
