On the evening of April 7, right after chairing a conference between the Prime Minister and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to proactively adapt to the new context in international trade, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with relevant ministries and branches to discuss promoting balanced and sustainable trade development with the United States.

This is the third meeting of the Government to promote balanced and sustainable trade development with the United States, held after President D. Trump announced a new tariff policy.

The conference was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, along with ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, government agencies and leaders of central ministries and branches.

In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the delegates' responsible and practical contributions and requested relevant ministries and branches to promptly complete documents and files to serve the working delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, in preparation for negotiations with the United States on balanced and sustainable trade.

The Prime Minister directed the Negotiation Delegation to request the US side to consider postponing the application of the new tariff policy for at least 45 days, in order to create time for the two sides to discuss and prepare a suitable transition plan.

At the same time, continue to promote negotiations to achieve a harmonious trade solution that benefits both sides, ensures consumer rights and does not violate international commitments that Vietnam has participated in.

The ultimate goal is to move towards a new bilateral agreement in the spirit that General Secretary To Lam proposed in his phone call with President D. Trump on April 4.

In addition, the Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors and localities to increase the import of goods that the United States has strengths in and that Vietnam has demand for, especially promoting the delivery of Boeing aircraft to Vietnam Airlines.

At the same time, continue to remove obstacles for US businesses, effectively handle issues of concern to the US side; ensure monetary policy is consistent with Vietnamese law and international practices, and maintain stable interest rates and exchange rates to support the economy.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to strengthen strict control over the origin of goods to avoid unfortunate violations. The Ministry of Science and Technology was asked to review regulations on copyright and intellectual property; strictly implement the law to protect the legitimate rights and interests of all parties, and prevent counterfeit, fake and counterfeit goods from entering the market.

Ministries and sectors are also required to study and expand preferential credit packages for the fisheries sector and businesses affected by the new tax policy. In addition, it is necessary to consider support measures such as reducing, extending or postponing taxes, fees, charges, and land rents; speeding up value-added tax refunds; and streamlining administrative procedures to reduce the burden on businesses.

Finally, the Prime Minister suggested that units and enterprises proactively work with the US side through various channels to promote balanced and sustainable trade cooperation, suitable to Vietnam's practical conditions as well as the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
