Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Quan Su Pagoda ( Hanoi ) to congratulate the dignitaries and Buddhist followers of the Vietnam Buddhist Association on the occasion of the Buddha's Birthday celebration, Buddhist calendar 2567, on the morning of June 2nd.

The head of government said that the Buddha's Birthday celebration is a very significant religious event in the spiritual and religious life of Buddhists, and is a world cultural and religious festival recognized by the United Nations General Assembly.

As a religion of compassion, kindness, and goodness, Buddhism was born for the sake of human life, happiness, and peace. In its practice and daily life, Buddhism always emphasizes the principle that Buddhist teachings are inseparable from worldly affairs (Buddhism and life are always interconnected). This philosophy of Buddhism has been present since its introduction to Vietnam, as the worldly engagement philosophy of King Tran Nhan Tong, Tran Thai Tong, and the Zen masters of the Ly and Tran dynasties, and continues to this day.

The Prime Minister affirmed that in any period of history, Buddhism has made worthy contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland with the spirit of protecting the nation and ensuring the well-being of the people, and guided by the principles of Buddhism, Nation, and Socialism. In recent years, Buddhist activities and social work have closely followed practical realities, focusing on and serving people. Charitable, humanitarian, and social welfare activities have received widespread support from Buddhist followers and the general public.

The Party and the State consistently implement a policy of respecting and guaranteeing the people's right to freedom of belief and religion; ensuring that religious activities comply with the law, the charters and regulations of religions recognized by the State...

With a tradition of patriotism and close ties to the nation, the Prime Minister hopes and believes that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will promote the spirit of engagement with the world, taking service to all beings, the masses, benefiting the Dharma, society, the nation, and the people as its guiding principle. The Sangha will continue to promote the strength of national unity, for a strong, prosperous, happy, and well-off Vietnam.

Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, affirmed that Buddhism always stands alongside the nation in times of peace as well as in times of danger. In peacetime, Buddhism contributes to building and developing the country; in wartime, Buddhism contributes to protecting the Fatherland. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many monks and nuns "took off their robes and put on their white coats." Every year, the Sangha allocates more than 2 trillion VND to social welfare and charity.
