Prime Minister chairs dialogue conference with Vietnamese farmers in 2024

On the morning of December 31, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a dialogue conference with Vietnamese farmers in 2024 with the theme: "Arousing the aspiration to get rich to develop a prosperous and happy country; confidently entering a new era". The conference was chaired by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and organized in a combination of in-person and online formats. With about 4,500 delegates, including about 2,000 farmers and cooperatives attending the dialogue.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the Conference at the Government headquarters. Also attending the Conference were leaders of central ministries, departments and agencies.

Chairing the Conference at the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee bridge point were comrade Nguyen Thien Van - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrade Ya Toan Enuol - Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association; with the participation of representatives of sectors, localities, representatives of farmer members and cooperatives of the province.

At the Conference, delegates who are farmers and cooperatives participated in many speeches focusing on mechanisms and policies to create conditions for collective economic development such as: there is no clear mechanism and legal framework on land accumulation on a large enough scale for cooperatives; lack of inter-regional and inter-provincial planning to form large production chains of cooperatives and enterprises; requesting the Government to have preferential policies to encourage the construction of more concentrated raw material areas for products such as shrimp, pangasius, medicinal herbs, mulberry and silk; requesting the Government to direct commercial banks to extend and postpone old loans, and at the same time provide new loans so that farmers can promptly restore production after natural disasters, epidemics, etc.

In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that over the past year, the agricultural sector and farmers have made very important contributions to the country's achievements. Notably, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is expected to exceed 62.5 billion USD, an increase of 18.7% compared to 2023; the trade surplus reached 17.9 billion USD, accounting for 72% of the total export surplus of the entire economy; Vietnamese agricultural products are present in 190 countries around the world.

Appreciating the effectiveness of the Dialogue Conference, the Prime Minister hoped that farmers would continue to contribute ideas through various channels to jointly build and perfect institutions, mechanisms, and policies, including mechanisms and policies on land, taxes, fees, charges, credit capital, etc.; thereby removing practical bottlenecks, so that all people can contribute their efforts and resources to development, bringing the goals of developing modern agriculture, building modern countryside, and civilized farmers to be implemented faster, more rapidly, more breakthroughly, improving the material and spiritual life of the people to become more prosperous and happier.

The Prime Minister emphasized a number of key contents in the coming time such as the need to pay more attention to planning work, especially sectoral planning, land planning, planning of industrial zones and clusters serving agricultural production; continue to review laws and regulations to liberate resources from land, maximize the efficiency of land; encourage businesses to participate in cooperation, support, and closely associate with farmers to ensure input and output for production; promote regional linkages, diversify products, markets, and supply chains; promote the application of science and technology and innovation, digital transformation, digitalization of agriculture, build databases, research, develop artificial intelligence in Vietnam's agricultural sector, research, access, and transfer advanced technology, clean technology, green technology, in all stages...
