Belarusian Prime Minister arrives in Hanoi, official visit to Vietnam

Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko began an official visit to Vietnam, a visit expected to bring Vietnam-Belarus relations to new heights.

On the afternoon of December 6, the plane carrying Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and the high-ranking Belarusian delegation landed at Noi Bai International Airport. The Belarusian Prime Minister's visit from December 6-9 was at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Accompanying the Belarusian Prime Minister were: First Deputy Minister of Industry Aleksandr Ogorodnikov; First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Yury Nazaranka; First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Military Industry Aleh Mishchanka; Deputy Minister of Health Barys Andrasiuk; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Ivan Smilhin; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov; First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Administration Committee Nadzeya Lazarevich; Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou and a number of leaders of ministries and sectors.

Welcoming the Belarusian Prime Minister and his delegation at the airport were: Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu, and leaders of the Protocol Department, European Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is expected to attend the official welcoming ceremony chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday (December 8). The two Prime Ministers will then hold talks and witness the exchange of a number of cooperation documents.

The Belarusian Prime Minister will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs and pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum; and visit the Temple of Literature. During the visit, the Belarusian Prime Minister and his delegation will have activities in Hanoi, Hung Yen province and Ha Long city (Quang Ninh province). Vietnam and Belarus officially established diplomatic relations on January 24, 1992. Since then, the two countries have developed multifaceted cooperation on the basis of their long-standing traditional friendship, making an important contribution to the national construction and development of each country. Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu said that over the past 30 years, Vietnam and Belarus have maintained and developed their traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with increasing trust. The two countries are cooperating in many fields from defense to trade , culture, education, science and technology, people-to-people exchange, local cooperation, etc. About 10 provincial-level localities of Vietnam have established friendly and cooperative relations with 6/7 provincial-level localities of Belarus. Trade turnover between Vietnam and Belarus in the first 9 months of 2023 reached 46.42 million USD. Vietnam and Belarus have many complementary strengths. Vietnam exports to Belarus seafood, natural rubber, wooden furniture, textiles, footwear, rice, cashew nuts, peanuts, pepper, spices, tea, canned vegetables, pharmaceuticals, computers, etc.; imports milk and dairy products, fertilizers, machinery, equipment, auto parts, tractors, trucks, chemicals. Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou told the press that the visit is important because it affirms Vietnam's key role as one of Belarus's important partners in Southeast Asia. Vietnam is very important to Belarus' foreign policy as a country with a dynamically developing economy based on the most modern technologies, a growing population, a potential and promising market, and a very effective system for attracting foreign investment. The Ambassador said that Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko's visit will send a clear signal to all partners interested in establishing a mutually beneficial cooperative partnership. The visit will also affirm the common interests of the two countries in strengthening and further developing comprehensive cooperation for the benefit of the country and people. The Ambassador believes that with joint efforts, the two countries will successfully overcome all difficulties and obstacles on the way to reaching new heights in relations.
