(MPI) - On October 30, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, a thematic meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on coordination in macroeconomic management and operation (Group 1317) took place under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong.

Attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen The Ngan, Director of the Department of Finance and Currency, Ministry of Planning and Investment and members of the Team representing the Ministry of Finance , Ministry of Industry and Trade, State Bank of Vietnam, and leaders of relevant units under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The draft thematic report of the Standing Office of Group 1317 presented at the meeting updated the progress and results in the recent implementation process. In particular, a lot of information was updated to enrich the database to help the Group analyze baseline scenarios, policy scenarios, followed by training sessions for all four sectors of the economy . With the support of International Monetary Fund (IMF) experts and analytical tools, it has supported potential activities to analyze and make macroeconomic forecasts.
At the meeting, experts and members of the Working Group highly appreciated the content of the draft report, the structure of the Draft closely followed the practical situation, provided clear solutions to achieve the set goals; at the same time focused on evaluating and discussing the contents on currency, tax, public investment, how investment affects GDP growth, etc. The initial research results of the topic with the help of IMF experts will help create more forecasting methods to produce increasingly high-quality forecasting results.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong thanked the leading experts of the IMF for helping Vietnam develop tools to expand macroeconomic analysis and forecasting. The Deputy Minister assessed that the implementation steps have achieved very positive results, the report on the discussion results of the Group is highly scientific and critical but needs to improve practicality, in research it is necessary to advise on solutions; consider many different perspectives to be able to combine with research in the medium and long term. With increasingly high requirements in the coming time, the Deputy Minister hopes that through the topics of Group 1317, Vietnam will train a team of young cadres with good forecasting capacity, effectively applying them to reality towards the goal of providing closer forecast numbers, closer to reality, quickly responding to the times in the work of advising the Government and the Prime Minister./.
