At the meeting, the two sides spent time discussing issues related to trade cooperation and sustainable energy development in Vietnam. Mr. Marchel Gerrmann highly appreciated the economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two sides and expressed his support for Vietnam's green energy transition program. The Netherlands is ready to support, share and cooperate with Vietnam in areas in which the Netherlands has experience.
On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long welcomed the close cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands in many fields, including those under the Ministry of Industry and Trade's responsibility such as trade, green energy transition, circular economy, and logistics. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Netherlands is an important trade partner of Vietnam and proposed that in the coming time, the two sides will have more specific and effective cooperation steps in fields that already have a good foundation for cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the Ambassador for Business and Development Cooperation agreed that both sides will actively support and coordinate in implementing cooperation activities to promote bilateral trade and seek cooperation opportunities in energy transition projects.
According to Vietnam Customs data, According to Vietnam Customs data, in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam exported to the Netherlands more than 9.45 billion USD, an increase of 27.5% over the same period in 2023 (ranking No. 1 in the value of imported goods from Vietnam in the EU). Regarding imports, in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam imported more than 567.4 million USD, an increase of 20.2% over the same period in 2023. Total two-way trade turnover in the first 9 months of 2024 reached more than 10.02 billion USD, an increase of 27.1% over the same period in 2023. Accumulated up to September 2024, the Netherlands ranked 8th with 448 projects and 14.56 billion USD out of a total of 149 countries and territories investing directly in Vietnam, ranking first among EU countries currently investing in Vietnam.
