Connecting trade between the Central Highlands and the Central region with export enterprises and trade promotion organizations. Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai attended the exhibition of typical products of the Central Highlands and the Central region.

On the afternoon of May 11, in Da Nang city, the Trade Promotion Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference on Trade Promotion in the Central - Central Highlands region in 2023 with the participation of the Departments of Industry and Trade, Industrial Promotion Centers - Trade Promotion of 16 provinces and cities in the Central - Central Highlands region. Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai attended and chaired the conference.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said that in the current context, the world and regional situation is complicated and unpredictable, directly affecting the whole world, including Vietnam and the Central Highlands region.

In Vietnam, many businesses are currently lacking orders and output, facing difficulties for both large and small businesses. “The job of trade promotion agencies is to help and support businesses overcome difficulties. This is also the main task of the Industry and Trade sector and trade promotion agencies,” said Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai.

According to Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai, the domestic market is facing many difficulties, purchasing power has decreased, leading to a decrease in businesses' consumption capacity. This is the reason why it is necessary to organize programs connecting manufacturers with domestic and export consumption and distribution centers. "Never before has Vietnam's export growth in the first quarter and the first four months of the year been so low. This is very alarming.

One of the measures and also the task that the Government has assigned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and trade promotion units is to support businesses to do their best in import-export activities as well as the domestic market," Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai emphasized and suggested that at the Conference, in addition to professional content, localities must clearly state the difficulties and obstacles, propose recommendations of their localities to help support businesses to consume products, connect supply and demand not only in the locality but also in the Central Highlands - Central region as well as the whole country, for export.

“Localities must have frank discussions, go straight to the point; have specific proposals and recommendations. For units of the Trade Promotion Agency, they must point out what the Central Highlands - Central region needs and what must be done?”, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai suggested and added, “Trade promotion units must identify the important role of trade promotion work, the responsibility of those doing trade promotion work. In reality, it is necessary to find output; must promote the connection between producers and consumers, both domestically and internationally.”

Providing information on trade promotion activities in the Central Highlands region in 2022, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that 2022 and the first months of 2023 recorded many difficulties and challenges. In that context, the system of trade promotion agencies across the country has coordinated with the Trade Promotion Agency to proactively and creatively deploy and implement timely and effective solutions to remove difficulties, support businesses to recover and develop production and business, support the connection of supply and demand of goods, maintain and enhance trade promotion activities to promote the circulation of domestic goods and exports.

During the year, the system of trade promotion agencies implemented more than 755 trade promotion projects, reaching 82% of the plan. The total budget for trade promotion activities in 2022 of local trade promotion centers is more than 250 billion VND; the estimated implementation budget for the year is 199 billion VND, supporting more than 15,000 businesses to participate in product promotion, market development, contract value and transactions at events reached nearly 300 billion VND and 20 million USD in export orders.

In the first months of 2023, localities across the country in general and the Central Highlands region in particular have guided and organized for local businesses to participate in major trade promotion events domestically and abroad such as introducing local businesses to attend major specialized exhibitions in the EU market (Biofach Fair, Fruit Logistica, Global Seafood Fair), Hannover Messe Industrial Fair...), the Middle East (Gulfood Food Fair, Leather and Footwear Specialty Fair...), the US (Boston Seafood Fair), Japan (Foodex Fair), international industry conferences, connecting local suppliers with foreign importers, export buyers...

Activities since the beginning of the year have shown the revival of trade promotion activities and contributed to supporting businesses in overcoming market difficulties in recent months.

Trade promotion units in the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam exchanged and discussed solutions to improve trade promotion effectiveness, proposed initiatives and coordination mechanisms in implementing regional and national trade promotion activities.

Regarding the orientation of trade promotion activities in the coming time, the Director of the Trade Promotion Department suggested that trade promotion units need to effectively utilize the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that Vietnam has signed; urgently implement approved trade promotion activities; Support businesses to strongly shift to official exports to the Chinese market, associated with brand building for sustainable exports; continue digital transformation, apply information technology in trade promotion; promote green transformation, circular economy; encourage trade promotion activities to promote the import of modern machinery and equipment, source technology... to serve the creation of products with high added value for domestic production and export.

At the Conference, the Central Highlands localities will be introduced to trade promotion activities abroad; major domestic trade fairs/events; Introduction to investment promotion activities for industrial and trade development; Introduction and guidance on the trade promotion traceability system applying Blockchain technology.

At the same time, the Conference is also an opportunity for delegates to exchange and discuss solutions to improve the effectiveness of trade promotion, propose initiatives and coordination mechanisms in implementing regional and national trade promotion activities.
