Entering the longan harvest season, people in Xuan Thuy commune, Kim Boi district, Hoa Binh province are excited, joy is evident on their faces when longan sells for a high price.

In early August, people in Khoang hamlet, Xuan Thuy commune are busy harvesting longan.

Everyone in Khoang hamlet was excited, this year longan sold for a high price. The joy was evident on everyone's face.

According to Khoang hamlet residents, at the beginning of the harvest season, longan was sold by households for 20,000 VND/kg. The price that traders bought at the garden fluctuated from 15,000 - 17,000 VND/kg.

“This year, my family’s longan garden is expected to harvest 30 tons of longan. The yield has decreased slightly compared to previous years, but this year, the price is good. With the early season price of 20,000 VND/kg, after deducting all expenses, my family is expected to earn about 300-400 million VND,” said Mr. Bui Van Luc (in white shirt).

Mr. Bui Van Thieu, Khoang hamlet shared: “My family is currently growing 2 hectares of longan, and has just harvested for 4 days now. From the beginning of the harvest until today, we have harvested about 3 tons. Longan is sold to customers in Hai Duong and Hanoi at 15,000 VND/kg, if the quality is good, the price will be a little higher. Compared to last year, longan is sold at a much higher price. Longan growers are all very excited.”

Similarly, Ms. Quach Thi Tuc, in Khoang hamlet (far right) excitedly said: “This year, traders bought longan directly from the garden at 17,000 VND/kg, compared to last year the selling price was about 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg higher. Farmers are very happy because this year they sold at a high price. My family planted more than 2,000m2, from the beginning of the season until now, we have harvested about 3 tons of longan, if we sell all of it, we will earn more than 50 million VND”.

Mr. Bui Khuyen Dinh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Xuan Thuy Commune, Kim Boi District, assessed that with the early season price of 20,000 VND/kg, compared to last year, the price of longan this year is about 2 times higher.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kim Boi district, the total area of ​​longan cultivation in the district is about 360 hectares, of which about 180 hectares are in Xuan Thuy commune. The two varieties of longan grown locally are Huong Chi longan and Mien longan.
